Gods Word: The Healing For Our Land

Psalm 107:20 KJV 1900
20 He sent his word, and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.
Introduction:
Today, we are in a time of great need, a moment in our lives, and in the life of our land, where the cry for healing and restoration has never been louder. Our societies face unprecedented challenges; emotional degradation, social injustices, pandemics, and moral decay. It's in moments like these that the timeless truth of the scriptures beckons us to look upward and find solace and solutions in God's eternal word.
The message today is anchored in the powerful assurance found in Psalms 107—a song of deliverance and redemption that reverberates with hope for us today. "He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave." (Psalms 107:20, NIV). This verse speaks volumes about the nature of our God and the transformative power of His word.
I want to bring to you seven points that describe what we need personally and for our community, state, nation and world.
1. The Nature of God’s Word (John 1:1)
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." This profound truth calls us to a deeper faith, a stronger hope, and a more fervent love for Jesus Christ. Let us commit anew to seeking Him in His Word, to living out His Word in our lives, and to proclaiming His Word to our world in need.
The Eternal Word
The Word did not come into existence at a moment in time, for "in the beginning was the Word." This tells us that Jesus, the Word, was there at the start, co-existing with God, co-eternal, not created but one with the Creator. As we reflect on the vastness of eternity, it is a clear declaration of the deity of Jesus. He is not a lesser god, not an afterthought, but God Himself, active in creation, fully participating in the shaping of the universe and the genesis of life.
The Word Was God
"And the Word was God." In this declaration, we find the cornerstone of our faith. Jesus is God. He is not merely a reflection, not merely a messenger, but God Himself manifest in flesh. This truth demands a response; it calls for worship, adoration, and surrender. Understanding that Jesus is God changes how we read the Bible, how we pray, and how we live. It's a fundamental truth that defines our identity and our destiny.
The Word Made Flesh
This truth bridges the infinite with the finite, eternity with time, divinity with humanity. God sent His Word, Jesus, into our world, not just to speak to us, but to live among us, to experience our joys and sorrows, and ultimately, to redeem us.
Today, we need healing, and it is through the Word, Jesus Christ, that healing comes. Our world is broken, filled with strife, pain, and despair. Yet, the Word that was in the beginning, that was with God, and that was God, is still active and alive today. He is the answer to our prayers, the solution to our problems, and the healer of our land. Let us then turn to Him, immerse ourselves in His Word, that we might find healing, hope, and restoration.
God's word is alive, active, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). It's not merely a collection of ancient texts, stories, or commandments. It is the very breath of God, given to bring life, to create, to restore, and to heal. When God sends His word, it accomplishes what He pleases and prospers in the thing for which He sent it (Isaiah 55:11). God's word carries the power to effect change, to bring about healing in our individual lives, and to our land as a whole.
2. Healing Our Land
Our land cries out for healing in many forms—spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Division, plagues of disease, and the scars of emotional damage are evident. However, the promise of healing is not a lost cause; it's a guaranteed outcome when God's people turn back to Him, seeking His face and His righteousness.
3. Acknowledging Our Condition (Psalm 107:17-20)
The psalmist begins by highlighting the distress of the people, revealing how their own rebellions had led to their afflictions. It paints a picture that is not foreign to us today. Our land suffers due to various reasons — some of our own making. Yet, in their distress, when the people cried to the Lord, He sent His word and healed them. This act of salvation underscores the first step towards healing: acknowledgment of our condition and turning to God for help.3. Practical Steps Towards Healing
4. The Role of Faith (Mark 5:34)
Jesus' interaction with the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years demonstrates the essential role of faith in the healing process. Her faith in Jesus' ability to heal her was rewarded, showcasing that our faith in God's Word and His promises can manifest healing in our lives and our land.
5. Repentance and Revival (2 Chronicles 7:14)
The healing of our land starts with personal revival. Each of us must examine our ways, repent, and align ourselves with God's word. As we do, we become vessels through which God can work to bring healing to others.
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God provides a blueprint for healing, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." This passage underlines a critical truth: Healing begins with repentance and a return to the principles laid out in God's word.
One of the prerequisites for healing our land is our humility and willingness to seek God's face, acknowledging our sins and turning from our wicked ways. God's promise is clear: if we do this, He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land. This process of repentance is crucial, for it aligns our hearts with God's, making us receptive to His word and healing.
6. The Power of God's Word (Hebrews 4:12)
God's Word is described as living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It has the power to pierce through our facades, revealing the truth of our circumstances and offering a path towards healing. When God sends His word to heal our land, it is a divine intervention that goes beyond human understanding, targeting not just the surface issues but the underlying roots.
7. Unity and Collaboration (Ephesians 4:3-6)
There is power in the proclamation of God's word. As we speak life, declare God's promises over our communities, and share the transformative message of the gospel, we participate in the process of healing our land.
Healing our land is not a solitary endeavor. It requires the concerted effort of the body of Christ, united in spirit and purpose. As we come together, upholding the principles of peace and unity, we become conduits of God's healing power, spreading His love and grace throughout our land.
Conclusion:
God has not left us without hope or help. He has given us His word, a potent tool for healing, restoration, and redemption. As we heed the call to return to God, to immerse ourselves and our societies in His word, we will see the fulfillment of His promise to heal our land.
Let us, therefore, rise in faith, armed with God's word, to be agents of healing in a world desperately in need. May our prayers, actions, and lives reflect the light of His word, bringing hope and restoration wherever we go.
