True Worship: Giving with all sincerity | Matthew 6:1-4 | Pastor Jose Brevil

Father may you please be with us as we stay to your word this morning and father we pray that your word will not return void and your word will do exactly what you have purposeful with to do. It's in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen to chapter six. We're going to look at a topic that has been abused in the culture and the church and several often. It is net-address because of the abuse and say we're going to talk about the subject of giving giving With all sincerity in the Book of Matthew as we finish with Chapter 5 and we saw that Jesus was talking about the righteous Life After talking about the Beatitudes and realizing all the character qualities that ought to be in us than Jesus talking about the righteous life focus on moral righteousness as we saw when Jesus was talking about living a life that is pure living a life that is forgiving reconciling with others. Loving our enemies not taking Vengeance not taking matters into our own hands. Jesus is telling us, you know to not live in Anger all those moral righteousness. Now when we move the 6:15 gear moving from moral righteousness to religious righteousness now, he's talking about our religion how we worship. Really the title bar messages really true worship and as we go for chapter 6 verse will pick three areas of our worship. The first one is giving the second one is prayer and the third one. Jesus is going to tackle is the subject of fasting and giving has to do with our relationship with others because when we give we're giving it for the benefit of others praying is our relationship with God, that's our vertical relationship because when we pray we pray to God and fasting is our relationship to self where we deny ourselves of things so that we can grow in our walk and grow in our faith with God and so beginning this morning is the subject of giving and Oswego of flu text we will see here Jesus want us when we give that we would give With all sincerity of Hearts really it goes at the base of true worship worship. Worship is a lifestyle of abeyance when God is talking about worship really referring to a lifestyle of obedience. Lifestyle of obedience. Let's look at the worship. Let's read our time here so we can see what Jesus is teaching us about giving and I just see giving is an act of worship prayer is an act of worship and fasting is an act of worship Jose worry singing Jesus picked those three. I would doing it for a show or are we just doing it to be Salt and Light c h Works will be public people will see that every work that we do that we'll be in secret but Jesus here is telling us check your motive whenever you're doing a work for God. Is it to be seen or are you trying to be a life to ultimately give the glory to God because all the glory belongs to God it says another to be seen. Buy them, but then you will have no reward from your father which is in heaven. So Jesus ain't gay if you did it for sure. Guess what you got your reward because you've been theme. Jesus is saying a the motivation should not be for show but it should be oh to be a blessing to others and to glorify God and when you give to the needy sound of trumpet before you as the Hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the street, so you are referring to the scribes in the Pharisees here when they were giving you see how it was all about them. It was all a show remember that will wear those long rolls, you know, it's kind of lame want to see people see how religious I am see how Godly I am the did it all for the show in Jesus pretty much was communicating to the people eggs the Pharisees the weight of the leaving they have all their reward already because they've been seeing it. It's kind of like when they about to give Jesus a sound the trumpet. It's like the Pharisees when they were going to give they wanted people to know that they are going to get it. But Jesus says that should not be your attitude. What does God says they have already received their Rewards? God's is dust when you give to the needy sound the trumpet. But again now remember your good work let your light shine so that they may give glory to your father in Heaven. Does that mean that when you give that people will will never know I got it. Thanks. Just don't do it for the show. Don't do wait for the show. Your goal is to give and not only your motive where the people know on that. Sometimes people will know all of them will not be in secret but hear Jesus is our lighting those people here who are doing it for a show and Jesus is saying download trumpet before you as the Hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the street that day may be praised by others. So do you see the motive there? The motive was to be praised. Look what I've given look a I just gave and Jesus says truly truly. So how much this woman was giving but she was not doing it for show. She was just putting it on. Jesus was observing what was going on here, but Jesus looked on at the rich putting their offering and Jesus said a This woman. We just gave two copper coins get more than the richest giving is not about the amount about the heart that is used to give it and this woman gave out of her poverty while those rich people. It did not cost them anything because they gave out of their bundles and Jesus says 8:00 this woman. She really gave in 1st Timothy 6 18 says they are to do good Christians to be rich in Good Works to be generous and ready to share. So Christians that needs to be our motivation that needs to be our heart attitude that we are always willing to give and willing to share a 2nd Corinthians 9 5 2 7 Say so I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead and to arrange in advance for the gift you have promised so that it may be ready. Jesus talking about the scribes in the fire stick. It says woe to you scribes and Pharisees is the word Hypocrites the word hypocrite means you are an actor. Truly. I say to you they have their reward again in verse 3. What does it say the blood? Say it with me. But when you give to the needy do not let your left hand know do not let your brother. When you give to the needy do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. We know that our right hand is our dominant hand. Usually when we do something we do it with our right hand unless we are left-handed through Jesus saying that giving should be so automatic for us. Like when we see a need and then we not counting every baby when we give when we give it to the right and that deliver doesn't even realize it because it just so spontaneous for us when we do it because it just like part of our nature. No, he says like but when you give to the needy do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. So how does that work now? We're living in in America, you know, we need our given contribution for tax purposes here again, as Jesus is talking hear some of the things that we do will be public and here I don't see any problem with people getting credit for tax purposes to keep your record. Does the government Honors that been in many other countries is not self the people just get them because they just give there's no credit attached to it the way I see it here in America. We have that opportunity if we give than receive more than I just said we have an opportunity. To give more and and I know some family members when they give to the church, they would never put their name and they don't want to get any credit for it. And that's their conviction and we just have to go just with our conviction bit here when Jesus is saying but when you give to the needy do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing that doesn't mean that some people will not know what you do. But again remember it's the heart. Why do we give it to show or is it to give glory to God and if that's the way that we do it, you know, God will honor it. 1st Corinthians and then going back in sorry the Bible says give to Caesar. What is Caesar's and give to God. What is God I love paying taxes because I love what the country does with the taxes, but I don't want to pay more. This church was a poor church, but they were generous generosity on their part for they gave according to their means and look at this and as I can testify and beyond their means But how of their own accord you should never be forced to give begging us earnestly for the favor that they added to that love when people give begging earnestly. So we know that giving is expected giving is not optional. The year God says giving as a matter of spiritual growth. So look at verse 3 and 4 with me again. But when you give to the needy do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that you're giving maybe he'll in secret and your father will Sees In Secret will reward you. So God says a when you give it is not for us to show when you give the only person you want to give glory for your giving and that person is God. Yes giving is an investment we've got but we don't want that to be our heart attitude. Remember we are called to live Counter Culture and living Counter Culture is not always counter-intuitive because it goes against the culture it goes against the norm and God is telling us to do Start against the norm don't live like the world lives, but God calls us to live differently. We don't want it for our self acts 20:35 in all things. I have shown you that by working hard in this way. We must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus how he himself said it is more blessed to give than to receive that takes maturity to know that it is more blessed to give than to receive. But when you give something and bring happiness to others the happiness the joy that you get last way longer than when you had received something and I remember money is a mobile money does not have any more the problem with the Prosperity Gospel today to tell you if you are a Christian you need to be rich You need to be well off that is a lie, and align align align align align Lazarus was a very Godly man has received in the Bible was talking about the rich man and Lazarus talking about that that that that story was poor. Lazarus also had some serious health issues. He was not well. But God says that he was a godly man. And he says when he died and went to heaven, what did God say he was in the bosom of Abraham, that means that Lazarus was in heaven, but he was a poor man and safely. But you also have a lot of rich people in the Bible Abraham you have job you have Solomon was the richest man in his time. They were real cheap, but they were also Godly in the book of Acts. You see the beginning of the church had a lot of cool people going on. The persecution did not have much that's why they had to share the living community and as we just read about the Christians were they were living in poverty, but we're very generous. Thief money is not a sign of godliness. That is no lie in the lie. That's the Prosperity Gospel is perpetuating and then so many people have been deceived by because so many of us are hard to do gravitated toward money so much well because that's what the cultural values when you have well people look on her man and everybody that's the life that I want. Been well, you can have wealth and be very Godless person and you can have wealth and be a very Godly person and you can be poor and struggling and still very Godly and when you die, you're going to heaven. Is not a sign of godliness. I know so many people in very poor country. They don't have anything, but they will sing Give Me Jesus.

The really the prosperity she's more like oh totally works American gospel in a very prosperous country. That's the only places that message would work and it is perpetuating even the poor countries telling them the same thing, but typically it's just like the people getting all the money from the pool people that seems to be getting well for you. So that's why we need to show ourselves approve and study God's word so that we don't fall into this trap does false Doctrine and also so we can deliver a lot of people from such flights in the culture really were people are literally giving away their saving somebody was much better than them and that have nothing to do with the work of Christ. That is just going to somebody's pocket but not going out to meet the needs in the community and help the needy God calls us as we give generously but it's to do the work of God and then as we see here in Luke 16 verse 10 and 11. It says one was faithful in a very little also faithful in much and one boy is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest and much even then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous. Well, that's wealth here in the world who will entrust to you the true riches sagada saying, why would I get you into heaven? If you're not faithful with wealth that I hear that are not that serious and 2nd Corinthians 9 verse 8 to 11th and God is able to make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiently in all things at all times. You may abound in every good work. In verse 9 as it is written. He has distributed freely and has given to the poor his righteousness and Do's forever. He was supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the Arvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way which flew us will produce Thanksgiving you guys are giving is an investment with God but is that why we should give know but that's a byproduct of our giving but unfortunately, that's how they using those vs. To let people you're going to be rich but again now, It messes up the heart cuz if you didn't give it with the right motive, there will be no reward the reward you get will be just here and now and enjoy and that's it. Right cuz we have a lot of that abuse in the culture in 2nd Thessalonians 3:10. It says for even when we were with you, we would give you this command if anyone is not willing to work. Let him know that we do need to be generous and give the wear also needs to use wisdom from God Proverbs. 11:24. 25 says one gives freely get bruised.
