Remind them of the Mission, Vision, and Foundation.

Core Values: How should we behave?

Explain what core values are (how should we behave).
Core values are not just the things we aspire to, but that which guides our decision making process so that we are always reflecting what we say we are.

1. Intentional Living

Everything we do expresses the mission and advances the mission.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NASB95
31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Context: The question… is it sin if…?
Many ask what can we get away with, but leading with intentionality means making every choice with God’s glory in mind…
Intentional Living.
Colossians 3:17 NASB95
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…
Explain what it is to act in someone’s name
Take not the Lord’s name in vain… Don’t wear the title of Christ without the transformation of Christ.
Col. 3 is about putting on the new self…
Colossians 3:1–17 NASB95
1 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. 5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. 6 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, 7 and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Because you’re new… because the old is gone… Whatever you do in WORD or DEED… do ALL in the Name of the Lord Jesus…
Intentional Living…
1 Peter 4:11 NASB95
11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Pursue righteousness over sin, be fervent in your love on for another, and this verse…
Christian living is intentional…
Everything we do we must be intentional about…
Intentional Living.
As a church, we must be intentional about what services have, what we put our resources into, what outreaches we are a part of…
The temptation can swing in either direction: either we don’t do anything outside of normal services because that’s what is already happening and it takes too much effort, too much uncomfort, and too much change to do anything different…
Or we swing the opposite way and we do new things just for the sake of them being new and neither is acceptable…
We at The Shed do everything with intention.
Intentional Living.

2. Encouraging People

Everything we do inspires, grows, and propels individuals to their mission.
Remember, The Shed exists to develop workers for the harvest.
It is our vision to activate and empower followers of Jesus to fulfill their God-given mission.
So everything we do should inspire, grow, and propel individuals to their mission.
Hebrews 3:13 NASB95
13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
Hebrews 10:24 NASB95
24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
It is a commission of the church to stir one another up, encourage one another.
And it is in my job description as well:
Ephesians 4:11–16 NASB95
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
Encouraging people.

3. Loving Community

Everything we do promotes unity and connection within God’s Family.
John 13:35 NASB95
35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Context: Lord’s Supper
John 17:21–23 NASB95
21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
Context: Also the Lord’s Supper
1 Corinthians 1:10 NASB95
10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.
2 Corinthians 13:11 NASB95
11 Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
Philippians 2:2 NASB95
2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
Romans 14:19 NASB95
19 So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.
We are a loving community. This is one of those things we do well, and we need to protect that moving forward.

4. Spirit Led Innovation

Everything we do is prayerfully postured to be led by the Holy Spirit.
We are Spirit led. Period. We prayerfully posture every decision and allow Him to lead.
John 15:26 NASB95
26 “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,
Proverbs 9:10 NASB95
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

5. Selfless Serving

Everything we do is done humbly, counting others as more significant than ourselves.
Philippians 2:3–5 NASB95
3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

6. Biblical Foundation

Everything we do is founded on the truth of the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NASB95
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
Every good work… Not just ministry, but every good work.
6 Core Values… These are the things that we agree on as the core of what makes up The Shed.
These are the things that we reflect in every choice, every strategy, every meeting, every time.
