John 10:27-30 – 27 [Jesus said,] “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” (English Standard Version)

What Do I Need to Know about the Doctrine of Election?

A simple definition:

It is a biblical doctrine which says that everyone who comes to faith in Christ, does so because God, in His grace and His mercy, _____________________ them to be saved.

Ephesians 1:3-5 – 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, in Christ; 4 for He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love 5 He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will, . . . (Holmand’s Christian Standard Bible)

Matthew 24:24 , 31 – 24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. . . . 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (English Standard Version)

Oversimplification of doctrine of election –

▸ The ____________

1 Peter 2:9 – . . . for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (New Living Translation)

2 Thessalonians 2:14 – For this purpose he [God] called you through our proclamation of the good news, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. (New Revised Standard Version)

1 Timothy 2:3-4 – 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 for he wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. (New Living Translation)

Matthew 22:14 – For many are called, but few are chosen. (New Living Translation)

▸ The _______________

Ephesians 1:4 – Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, . . . (Good News Translation)

Ephesians 1:5, 11 – 5 God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his sons and daughters – this was his pleasure and purpose. . . . 11 All things are done according to God’s plan and decision; and God chose us to be his own people in union with Christ because of his own purpose, based on what he had decided from the very beginning. (Good News Translation)

▸ The __________________

1 Thessalonians 2:12 – . . . that your daily lives should not embarrass God but bring joy to him who invited you into his Kingdom to share his glory. (The Living Bible)

1 Peter 5:10 – . . . the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation. (Good News Translation)

Can I Lose My Salvation?

The doctrine of assurance or ____________________________ of the saints

Romans 8:38-39 – 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (New Revised Standard Version)

Philippians 1:6 – I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Christian Standard Bible)

2 Timothy 1:12 – . . . for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. (New King James Version)
