The Helper
The Helper
As we delve into the role of the Holy Spirit,
we discover that He is not merely an abstract concept or a distant force.
Instead, He is our Helper, actively involved in our lives.
please don’t miss understand The Holy Spirit
doesn’t work for us, but on behalf of us
The Holy Spirit is God with in US.
Let’s consider some practical aspects of how the Holy Spirit assists us:
1. Empowering Worship:
1. Empowering Worship:
The Holy Spirit helps us worship God in spirit and truth (Ephesians 5:18-20, John 4:24).He enables us to connect with God on a deeper level, moving beyond rituals and external forms.
2. Illuminating God’s Word:
2. Illuminating God’s Word:
The Spirit illuminates Scripture for us (1 John 2:27, 1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 14).As we read the Bible, He brings understanding, conviction, and revelation.
3. Completing Projects and Assignments:
3. Completing Projects and Assignments:
Just as the Spirit empowered artisans in the Old Testament (Zechariah 4:6-9),
He helps us complete personal and divine tasks.
Whether it’s a project at work, a ministry assignment,
or a family responsibility, the Holy Spirit provides wisdom and strength.
4. Fruitfulness and Radiance:
4. Fruitfulness and Radiance:
Isaiah 22:15 speaks of the Spirit’s anointing, leading to fruitfulness.
When we yield to His guidance, our lives radiate the glory of God (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Jesus us tells us this in the last verses of Chapter 15 of the Book of John
English Standard Version (Chapter 15)
26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth,
who proceeds from the Father, the will bear witness about me.
27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
There is something Different,
something Special about following Jesus.
We follow a lot of things --- hobbies, sports, news,
For the most part these things that we follow do not actually effect us personally
and many times
they don’t even know who we are or if we exist.
There is no relationship with much of what we follow
i can join many forums, or channels for my favorite team
read about them,
even make comments and get responses from others
But they really don’t know me at all
I sadly think this is the relationship
that many think is the way that God works
We log into the Bible, scroll around a bit, make a few comments, and then move on with our day.
Maybe we remember to pray before dinner
or we know we have a Friend in Jesus that we can call on in times of trouble
We believe that Jesus is in our Church building and not in our house
We believe we can live a life that chooses when to follow Jesus and we determine the HOW
that is a HUGE MISTAKE in understanding GOD<JESUS<and the HOLY SPIRIT
we don’t LEAD, we FOLLOW
But if we truly UNDERSTOOD
That our very life is dependent on Jesus
If we understood the depth of Jesus desire to abide — to be fully connected
if we understood that OUR EVERYTHING AND EVERY REASON is dependent on Jesus
I truly believe we would be clinging on to JESUS
with every bit or OUR STRENGTH
i think it is key to understand that our message last week is connected to God’s message this week.
We are NOT alone!!!
We can face resistance following our favorite team,
and we can have others who like that team stand with us.
The jokes, the arguments --- Frankly the Justification run rampant
I will tell you over half the time i don’t even know if i believe what i read or hear.
and sadly i am guilty of leaning on my own ways or thoughts
We all too often live our Christian life this way ---- based on our understanding.
we understand that if i go to church i am good, and if i don’t go i am bad
CHURCH IS IMPORTANT --- but it is NOT the MAIN THING
The MAIN THING is CHRIST IN ME, GOD CONNECTED,
and that CONNECTION is THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT
Jesus is letting His Disciples know that they will NOT be ALONE
So Who is this Helper, the Spirit of Truth
Look at
John 16:1 (ESV)
1 “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away.
Jesus wants you to know that you have the Holy Spirit
I believe deeply
that we are to live in the Spirit
to listen and obey His Voice
That we don’t simply have a Guide on our Desk or Bookcase
But an active and accessible Power within us
Friends--- Listen to the Words of our Lord
John 16:2–4 (ESV)
2 They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.
3 And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. “I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.
Do you see the depth of evil in people?
We will not be able to worship in comfort and safety
We will see people doing things of Evil and telling lies that it is in the service to God.
O how we see this in history
the Crusades
The battles and killings in Ireland
In many ways our loved USA — was started due to Religious Persecution
“Christians” killing Christians because of different beliefs
in the same way but lesser intensity
we kill Christians today with our Words — typed or spoken
We are called to LOVE one ANOTHER
yet we Judge one another
and that is not what Jesus is teaching.
We kill Christians who live different, believe different, or are misinformed
We all too often Judge, when we are to LOVE
THE ADVANTAGE WE HAVE
THE ADVANTAGE WE HAVE
John 16:5–7 (ESV)
5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
The Holy Spirit is God in US
We are Never alone
The Trinity which goes beyond our human understanding and explanation.
God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit
God’s Spirit represents an active dimension of His character
The Holy Spirit is a person
Jesus is about the leave the earth in human form
and return to Heaven to be with the Father
He leaves and the Gift of the Spirit enters into the world
The Spirit is not new --- it is not a New Testament person
For the Holy Spirit was there at the beginning
He hovered over the waters in Creation
He comes upon people in the Old Testament.
In the very beginning
2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
IN the MIDDLE
11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
at the start of Jesus earthly ministry
16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;
and at the Beginning of the NEW EARTH
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
Conviction of the World
Conviction of the World
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;
Right or Wrong
Good or Evil
Obedience vs Disobedience
These are the ways of the Spirit leading you
It is the conviction of the Spirit that you felt in your life prior to accepting Jesus
This is His choosing you— His pursuing you
— so that you believe and pursue Him
Jesus is going from this Earth --- Returning to the FATHER
and the Holy Spirit will take on a NEW ROLE on Earth
In the OT --- the Spirit came upon people
and after Jesus leaves earth
We have the option of accepting Jesus
and when we do we receive the Gift of the Spirit.
The Spirit of God inside of US
So that we are NEVER ALONE
Don’t miss what is going to happen with the death of Jesus on the Cross
Satan is going to be judged ---
11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
the ruler of the world is Satan
Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Please understand that we live in a Sin filled world
the Garden is not our living realm --- YET!
the Spirit is Guiding us to Glorify God
John 16:12–15 (ESV)
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
I love that in these verses we can be encouraged that
Jesus is giving us a reminder of our mission.
To Glorify God, by Growing others in Christ
Tell me you SEE IT
the Holy Spirit will guide you into ALL TRUTH
and The Spirit will give you the WAY to GLORIFY GOD
He will GLORIFY JESUS --- so that we know that JESUS IS THE LIFE
With the HOLY SPIRIT in US
We can know the TRUTH, KNOW THE WAY, and HAVE LIFE
THE HOLY SPIRIT
will LEAD US TO GLORIFY GOD and to GROW
The WAY-- THE TRUTH--- AND THE LIFE
Verse 15 confirms that the ultimate source of revelation for both Jesus and the Spirit is God.
Since the Spirit takes what belongs to Jesus,
and since what belongs to Jesus belongs to God,
then even in Jesus's absence God's revelation to the world and to the church is still available
— through the Spirit.
The church in John’s day, today, and always
finds itself trying to understand
and live its faith in the midst
of social, cultural, and global circumstances that change rapidly.
Conclusion:
The Holy Spirit is not a distant observer; He is our constant Helper.
Let’s rely on Him,
seek His guidance,
and allow His presence to transform every aspect of our lives
. As we do,
we’ll experience His power, wisdom, and love in remarkable ways.
Remember, the Helper is always by our side, ready to assist us on this journey of faith.
You are NEVER ALONE
