How often do we look back at people from ancient times and think.
Thank God I’m not like those old-fashioned nincompoops,
That I’m a christian, not falling into those ridiculous superstitions and temptations.
Take some time to seriously study Scripture however, and you’ll find, modern man is not nearly beyond the failures we see in Israel, both ancient and new.
Take for example, how we treat our children.
Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, to defile yourself with her.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel, who gives any of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.
We may think, as 21st century Americans, we are far beyond child sacrifice.
We may even look at other cultures and think ourselves superior because of that fact.
However, our assumptions about child sacrifice are terribly flawed.

Abortion
Many people look to 1973 and the Supreme Court’s decision in the case Roe v. Wade as the point where the evil of abortion entered our land.
However, the Roe case came to the court because a woman was not legally allowed to terminate her pregnancy and was convinced to sue.
She may not have wanted to let her child “pass through the fire to Molech”, but that was effectively what was asking to be allowed to do.
