Apostels creed

‌I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;*

He descended to the dead

on the third day he rose again

he ascended into heaven,

is seated at the right hand the Father

and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

‌I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic* church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Last week we talked about wholehearted worship. This week I want to dwell on Joyful and enthusiastic worship. So when we do that what are we talking about? Well it starts with leaving all our troubles at the alter. So this week I want to do something a little different. Join me in a prayer of confession. (Page 8 in our hymnal)

Merciful God

WE confess that we have not loved with our whole heart.

We have failed to be an obedient church.

We have not done your will.

We have broken your law.

We have rebelled against your love.

We have not loved our neighbors.

We have not heard the cry of the needy.

Forgive us, we pray.

Free us for joyful obedience.

through Jesus Christ our Lord

Amen

When we come before the lord it is always nice to leave our shortcomings at the alter. It relieves us of our guilt and opens our heart for Joyful worship. So what do we think of when we say joyful worship. there are a number of things we can talk about, but lets concentrate on how we as a christian come to the lord. I know when I grew up in church you always had to wear your Sunday best. Which I still do today. But you were to set in your pew and shut up and behave. Well its still a good Idea to be have but I want everyone to make a joyful noise to the lord. as he tells us in

Psalm 100:1-5

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his[a]; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Did you catch that faithfulness continues through all generations. You see Jesus commands us to Worship the lord with gladness and come before him with joyful song so let’s sing

Joyful Joyfol We Adore The

(Pg.89 in the hymnal)

You see we come together to lift the Lord our God in Joyful praise. when we come out of church what does our community see? Do they see a group of Christians glad to be here or do they see a group of Christians rushing away with frowns on their face and just glad the pastor is done? I pray that we portray a image of people who love the lord and are glad to gather in his name. When is the last time you shared with someone how much you enjoy church? do yo realize we are the sheep of God’s pasture and if we don’t share with others, our love of God and our church, why would we think anyone would want to come share with us. You see our enthusiasm is catching. Why do you think the kids want to go to the big churches? The go because their friends are there and they talk about how the enjoy it. when we don’t talk about our church and how we love the way people care about us. No one will know the love we receive from the everyone here. The fun the kids can have when we get together and spend time together. Today I ask we look at ourselves and our image we portray of our church and remember we are to have joy in the Lord when we worship. When we come in with an enthusiastic attitude the more we will enjoy our time spent in worship with each other. You see Jesus looks at us with a joyful heart and Grace we need to treat him with joy and enthusiasm
