So Blessed to be here….
Native American Ministries & Evangelism
We Love Brother Jeff Chavis and his wife.
Brother Hanscom
great fellowship
truly love my wife.
I was born in Nome, Nome Eskimo. Inupiaq, Inuit My eskimo name is…
Closest point to Russia.
My mom was born on a lil island out in the bering sea. King Island.
my mom was part of the king island dance group. A very devote Catholic. until someone reached out to her, and taught her a bible study….
Alaska is not just our mission field, but it is the way we live.
hunting, gathering. trading bartering.
the different tribes.
To get a gathering, we call potluck. People come together. Love to fellowship.
we often hold potlucks. It’s a great way to gather people. We use it as an evangelism tool.
We pastored in Sitka for 6 years. That was one of our tools to get people in Bible study. Native food. Harvesting. Seal oil.
Native people love the Lord. We love praying and being in the presence of the Lord…
I heard someone say, “you know why it rains when we dance?”
“because we dance till it rains…”
the same with prayer and worship. We seek the Lord and just keep praying until something happens…Just because we don’t feel God’s presence now, well, just keep on worshipping.
Natives can be very reserved, few words spoken.
Unless at a basketball tournament, or bingo.
Matthew 21
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. 19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

Didn’t feel like they were doing anything wrong

thought they were doing the right thing…

selling doves. They weren’t in the actual temple area, so what could be the problem?

They had their tables set up outside of the temple courts. Fundraising.
I’ve always wondered why the Lord was so extreme. Kicking over tables.

The Temple was for the Jews. a place of worship, and sacrifice for God’s people.

The outer courts were for the Gentiles. For The unclean. since they couldn’t worship in the temple, there was a place people.
the temple was a perfect set up. The Jews would be blessed, and then in return bless the rest of the world.
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Ge 22:18.
Just like the church. The Lord will bless the church. Then the church will reach the rest of the world…
The outer courts is a special place! A place where people can approach the Lord.
John 12
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: 21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
All though the Greeks were not allowed in the temple, they wanted to see Jesus… so in the outer courts they reached out to Philip…
Part of the reason in the Jews wanted Paul dead, was because they thought he brought a Gentile into the temple
Acts 21
28 Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.
Thought that Paul brought a Greek into the Temple.
The Temple was for the Jews.
The outer-courts for everyone else.
Jesus told the Jews
Jn 2:19–20 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
He was talking about His body.
the power of the temple, is what’s in the temple. the presence of the Lord.
We are so blessed, that we can experience God’s presence. The shakinah glory.
While the Jews were focused on the temple, the building.
The ministry of Jesus happened out side of the temple.
He ministered to the hurting… the gutters. The side roads, the ghettos. In peoples homes. Blind Bartimaus. the 10 lepers. Jesus was about reaching the Lost.
Lk 4:17–19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 19 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Jn 4:31–34 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Jesus was ministering to a Samaritan woman, and then to the whole town. The Lord had a strong desire to reach the Lost. It was what He was hungry for. It was the reason He came to earth.
To reach the Lost.
I want to hunger for the things that Jesus hungers for. and that is to reach the Lost. to win a soul into the kingdom of God. To see people set free from the bondage of sin.
While We were Pastoring in Sitka, I wanted to see people saved.
Travis and Amanda
Israel had lost the mission. Instead of reaching the world, they were more focused on ministering to themselves.
and as the church, we must not get to where we are only concerned about what in these 4 walls. we must think about the people outside of these walls. people in the outer courts.
=
When Jesus came to the Fig Tree, it looked good. but the fruit is on the branches. there was none….
Just like when Jesus walked into the temple…. It looked good, but there was no fruit.
there were no sinners. No Gentiles.
after the cleansing of the temple, the Lord made room for the sinners…
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
1 Corinthians 3
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Day of Pentecost
Acts 2
2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
the promise to God’s people, you shall receive power
The Lord is hungry….
John 3:1–5 KJV 1900
There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Mark 16:16 KJV 1900
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
I’ve got to have a hunger for the things that Jesus is hungry for.
