The Line of Cain -

“seed” (zera') can refer to an immediate descendant, a group of descendants, or a distant offspring. He argues that the “seed” of the serpent refers to natural humanity that is now in rebellion against God.

b. Seed of the woman

The seed of the woman who was to bruise the serpent’s head is connected with a singular verb and pronoun, and, denoting therefore an individual, points to Christ personally in a peculiar and emphatic sense.

Isaiah 9:6 “6 For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Micah 5:3 “3 Therefore, Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of the ruler’s brothers will return to the people of Israel.”

The woman’s Seed will crush the serpents head. Then the venom of the serpent will be extracted, so that it can no longer inflict any harm.

Application

Because of the FALL - we experience the pain of the curse but because of God we experience the peace of the covenant.

The Pain of the Curse

Romans 7:14–25 “14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold as a slave under sin. 15 For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 So now I am no longer the one doing it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh.
