I will build my church
I will build my church
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
Jesus said I will build it...
If He is building it we should be a part of it...
Not a building but a community...
Church is not really something we just go to, but something we are a part of
We meet in the building, but it is not “the church”
Assembly or gathering together is what the church does.
The way that looks has changed over the years, and will continue to change.
41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.
43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.
44 Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.
45 They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need.
46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts,
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
But we are not to forsake of neglect the assembling of ourselves together.
24 And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works,
25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.
Paul wrote to the churches
Jesus spoke to the churches
Not the “universal” church but to the local church and or its leaders
We don’t just need to be a part of “the church” but “a church”
How we meet, where we meet, when we meet will evolve and grow over the years.
Culture, growth, economy, and distance will have an effect on these things.
We still need to go to church...
I love being with God’s people, I don’t have to go, I get to go...
Discipleship
Instruction (Apostles doctrine) Ephesians 4:11-12 “11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,”
Accountability. We all need others to be accountable to. Leaders, each other, etc
Examples to follow and not follow
Fellowship
Being together is good, not just a party, but where we strengthen and encourage each other. Getting to know one another.
Worship- Corporate worship is different than individual worship. God dwells in our praises. They Worshiped together it is a part of our eternal purpose. Revelation 7:9 “9 After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands.”
Prayer we pray together and for one another, it is powerful and synergistic. James 5:16 “16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.”
Service-
A place to employee your gift. God calls us to serve others. Team work. We need to be part of a team and . That is what love looks like. The work of the ministry.
A place to give.
A cooperative for missions locally and globally.
Need
At some point we all have a need and need to be a part of the community.
We need one another on many different levels
We all have a need to belong to something. Clubs, societies, etc...
Because God says to!
Many excuses and reason not to come, but we need to make church the reason we can’t do other things.
It’s a good place to be.
You get fed
You get uplifted
You get strengthened
You get straightened out sometimes
Church is not a bad thing its a good thing...
