John 6:63 NASB95
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
Meaning the flesh does not bear Spiritual fruit.
John 15:4–5 ESV
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
God cuts us back to give us more than were we are. Whats produced out of it is much better than what we currently have.
We often times start out in the Spirit and end up in the flesh. Its easy to have God’s favor, backing, and grace and then find our selves creating a method because we think we have it figured out and know how to do it.
