Introduction:
Good morning church. Today, we are talking about the difference of life between the person who fears the Lord and the wicked person. This topic is incredibly important for anyone in any stage of life because we as humans are social creatures who love to live according to the crowd. Many go to public school, the workplace, or even supposed Christian circles and find most are not focused on eternity. Because of this, we all need to be reminded of the value and worth of following God.
Psalm 112:1–10 ESV
1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments! 2 His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. 5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. 6 For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. 7 He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. 8 His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. 9 He has distributed freely; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn is exalted in honor. 10 The wicked man sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked will perish!
Praise the Lord
Let’s praise the Lord today for His justice and love towards those who follow Him.
Fear of the Lord, who delights in His commandments
Offspring, Wealth, and Riches
Light dawns in the darkness for the upright
Now it seems on surface level that this passage teaches that all will go well for the one fears God, but now we see words that the one who fears God has to face, things like
Darkness (v. 4)
Bad News (v. 7)
Adversaries (v. 8)
This is why I love this phrase “Light dawns in the darkness for the upright”.
It shows both that the one who fears the Lord does not avoid adversity, but trusts the Lord through adversity.
We also see the description that light dawns
This is the truth that those who fear God have hope. Those who fear God may see darkness, but can be 100% certain of the light. The eternal future is bright for those who fear God.
For the wicked, no lasting hope.
My question for you today is what life will you live? A pray that we chose the life that lasts forever. Let’s pray.
