Galatians 4: 17-20. It is good to be Zelus for the right things.
Paul continues his plea for the Galatians to trust in Jesus by faith, and not in works, as the Jewish new teachers are asking them to do.
Paul addresses the way the other teachers act also, they are zealus, jealus straving for, PPT 1.
They the teachers make much of you, - oh that is nice, (Moste of us like to be made much of, the see me, they like me, they think I am a nice or good person, cool, fun hip, trendy, a person of influence, most people like to be liked and be made much of). Why do we or do we like to be made much of? Worship?
Buy why did the people make much of them?
They do it so they can shout you off from me and others, they do it so you will make much of them…
It is good to be made much of if it is for a good purpose, - but not if they have other motives. The opposite of last time speaking the truth in love for the good of people. But here we see that they are making much of the Galatians, so they will follow them and their teaching and isolate them from Paul and his team. They make much of the people so they can make much of them… Oh, that is just selfish… and not building up the body of Christ up in to Jesus that is the head. (have you tried that? – Runing example – that someone made much of you, and then you find out it was so they could get something? Or they had an agenda? – sales people on the street).
Paul is pointing to the motives that the Jewish teachers have and how they are trying to create division in the church, and they are out to get followers, not to have Christ formed in the Galatians, as nr. 1 popurs.
Paul wants; what is good for them all the time not only when he is present with them, and calls them little children again, - and Paul expressed what he wants for the Galatians; that Christ should be formed in them, and that Paul; is like a woman in childbirth anguish, is pleading for the Galatians, that they would be formed like Christ, become more like Jesus.
Paul is as he has been writing form verse 6 astonished and how he is perplexed about the Galatians. Wishing he could be Paul then turns to himself and with frustration again he wishes that he could be with them and change his tone.
