We realized that we had drifted from our father and we could no longer hear him.
Our dad comes walking up and ask us “Are You Deaf?”
How many of us in here tonight can’t hear our Father?
Maybe we find ourselves caught in a storm and we feel like we’re all alone.
Hey, if you have never heard the Father’s voice to begin with there is a good possibility that you aren’t saved.
Tonight we’re going to be in John, chapter 10, verses 22-31.
John 10:22–31 NKJV
22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.” 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
Jesus says His sheep hear His voice and they follow Him.
Tonight I look to show you 3 reasons we do not hear the voice of God.

1. We have not surrendered to the Father.

John 10:27 NKJV
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
Explain invitations leading up to salvation.

2. We have sin clogging up our ears.

The things of this world will act as earwax and will choke out the Word of God in you.
We get so caught up in life that we don’t pay attention.
Kids and electronic devices.
Explain men and women and the nothing box.
Matthew 13:22 NKJV
22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
discuss storms in Natalie and my life

3. We have drifted from the Father.

Maybe you at some point knew the Father and heard from Him, but now it seems like you haven’t heard from Him in ages.
As my brother and I walked up the beach we realized that our dad hadn’t gone anywhere. We had drifted.
When the current of culture tries to sweep you away, we think that God has left us.
God never leaves or forsakes us.
Hebrews 13:5 NKJV
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
God desires an intimate relationship with you. He desires you to spend time with Him.
We call this abiding in Him.
Jesus explains this for us in the parable of the True Vine.
John 15:5–6 NKJV
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
