Growing Up Today
Paul’s story is unfortunately not an isolated incident...
Generations are defined most notably by the their technology. All generations living on earth today have experienced the largest communication shift in 500 years.
Screens dominate nearly every aspect of our daily lives. Digital Babylon

The Real Babylon

Daniel 3:16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But EVEN IF he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
[Write this Down] Counter Cultural Obedience is an Even If Obedience.
Why were Daniel And.. able to stand?
They understood that partial obedience is disobedience.
They were able to stand because they saw the bigger picture
Some of you aren’t seeing the bigger picture
You say, at least my kid isn’t that….
It’s not really hurting them
They may get benched if they don’t make that tournament next weekend
The change in the next generation starts with you!
Story of the Knights Templar
Baptism with their sword out of the water.
You can have control of me but you can't have this. Jesus, I'm all yours, but who I am and what I do on the battlefield, how I use this sword, that's not part of the deal" [Grab Phone and Hold it up]
Law of Cognition: Whatever you think about shapes your actions.
Law of Exposure: What you think about is determined by what you are exposed to
This is how it is happening
74% of Generation Z say that their phone is the last thing they see before they go to bed, and the first thing they see when they wake up.
4% of Generation Z has a biblical worldview. What does that tell you about whether people are being conformed or transformed by their screens?
Partial Obedience is Disobedience
Digital Babylon calls for Real Babylon
[Write This Down] When a belief is widely accepted it is poorly defended.
This is true of both Christian and Secular Culture.
In our comfort we become Lazy. We don’t have good answers because we haven’t needed them.
The moral majority
Consequence? We got lazy.
Secular Culture
Gospel Call
The truth is no one in this room will truly be able to Implement “Even If” obedience, without first understanding that Jesus already did that for you.
