Father of a Multitude of Nations
Father of a Multitude of Nations
Here we see God fulfilling His promise to make Abraham the father of many nations and to bless Isaac.
Genesis 17:4–6 ““Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you.”
Genesis 17:18–19 “And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!” God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.”
Abraham Breathes His Last
Abraham Breathes His Last
Abraham died in peace and was buried in a good old age, according to the promise.
Genesis 15:15 “As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.”
Abraham was laid to rest in the land of promise, in the cave that belonged to him as a possession.
Genesis 13:14–15 “The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.”
See Genesis 23:17–18...
Abraham finally found the heavenly city that he was longing for.
See Hebrews 11:8-16...
Hebrews 13:14 “For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.”
As believers in Jesus Christ, we should long for the time when we dwell with Him. It is far better to be with Him than anywhere else.
2 Corinthians 5:1-8...
Philippians 1:20–24 “as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.”
Philippians 3:20–21 “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”
The Generations of Ishmael
The Generations of Ishmael
God was faithful to fulfill His promises to Abraham and Hagar concerning Ishmael.
Genesis 16:10 “The angel of the Lord also said to her, “I will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.””
Genesis 17:20 “As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation.”
Genesis 16:12 “He shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.””
Joshua 21:45 “Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”
