God's Anointed: Handle with Care

2. What Does It Mean To Be God’s Anointed?

The Hebrew word Mashiach means to be anointed with oil. A ceremonial ritual for God’s purpose.
Chosen and sanctified for a purpose
you could say elect

3. Who is God’s Anointed?

Anointed One (singular)
Daniel 9:25–26 ““Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. “And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.” John 1:41 “He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).”
Anointed Ones. plural Israel/God’s People in Egypt
Psalm 105:14–15 “He permitted no one to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.””
1 Chronicles 16:22 “Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.””
Luke 13:34 ““O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!”
Acts 7:52 “Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,”
We are a persecuted priesthood
2 Corinthians 1:21 “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”
Apple of the Eye
Deuteronomy 32:10 ““He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.”
Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,”
Proverbs 7:2 “Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye.”
Zechariah 2:8 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.”
The “little man” you see reflected when you look into someone’s eye. When we look into God’s eye we see us. And God protects His eye “us”.
We are the “little man” created in His image. A reflection in His eye. Imagers of God.
When you look at other saints what do you see?
A carnal person or someone created in the image of God and now a child of God. Someone who is that precious to God that to touch that person would be in effect poking God in the eye!
That action could illicit a strong reaction from the Father. How would you like it if someone poked you in the eye?
Little ones
Matthew 10:42 “And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.””
Matthew 18:6 ““Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Matthew 18:10 ““Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 18:14 “Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”
Matthew 25:40 “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”
Matthew 25:45 “Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’”

4. Mercy Moves Mountains

1 Samuel 26:13–25
In the dialogue between David and Saul we see that forgiveness should ultimately lead to reconciliation. See our Lord’s example. With the viewpoint that every child of God is an anointed one how should we treat one another?
Saul’s last words to David
1 Samuel 26:25 “Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.”
