[Psalm 34:19]
Many are the afflictions of the righteous:
But the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
The subject of this verse is afflictions.
It speaks on a subject that is applicable to all of us.
The verse is a great encouragement to all God’s people about their many trials and troubles.
1. The Diversity Of Afflictions
“Many.”
This verse speaks of them in the plural, for they are plural in their number.
Daily we experience afflictions.
They are so many they often nearly overwhelm us.
Sometimes they pile up on each other.
God never allows us to be burdened with more than we can carry.
2. The Discomfort Of Afflictions
“Afflictions.”
The word translated “afflictions” suggests this experience is unpleasant, very discomforting and indeed painful.
When Paul speaks of the afflictions of the believer as being “light affliction”
(2 Corinthians 4:17),
He is comparing our affliction to the glory that it brings.
He says the compensation from the Lord for our affliction is so great that though it may have been very painful, it will seem like a light affliction.
That is encouraging when you are experiencing a heavy, painful trial.
3. The Devoted For Afflictions
“The righteous.”
We generally think of afflictions only belong to bad and mean people
The idea that the righteous should suffer does not fit out thinking.
It is true that the righteous do suffer just like the wicked people suffer.
Your suffering does not necessarily mean you have sinned and are being punished for it.
Your suffering may indicate that you are being refined in the furnace of some affliction.
4. The Deliverance From Afflictions
“The Lord delivers him out of them all.”
A. The Timing For Deliverance
“The Lord delivers him out of them all.”
Afflictions will not last forever.
During the time of the affliction, they may seem to last forever.
Be assured that no affliction comes to the God’s people to last forever.
B. The Totality Of Deliverance
“The Lord delivers him out of them all
Underline the word “all.”
That emphasizes the power of God in deliverance.
God does not forget one single trial.
He will deliver the righteous from every one of their afflictions.
C. The Truth About Deliverance.
“The Lord delivers him out of them all.”
God delivering us from all our affliction implies that God had a purpose for them.
Other Scripture will confirm this conclusion.
No affliction is without a good purpose.
God will more than compensated for the suffering by the profit you will gain from the affliction.
