Psalm 127:1 ESV
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Psalms III: Chapters 107–150 (King James Version) Psalm 127: When You Build Your Life or Home without the Lord, 127:1–5

Building a house or family without the LORD results in a weak base: Only He can give a firm foundation

The Hebrew word for in vain (shav) the meaning is : empty, futile, unfulfilling, worthless, without result. A home that is not built on the LORD starts out with a weak base. Only He can give a firm foundation
Matthew 7:24–27 ESV
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Psalms III: Chapters 107–150 (King James Version) Psalm 127: When You Build Your Life or Home without the Lord, 127:1–5

The reality is, we all build our lives on something—on a system of principles, on a set of priorities, or with a particular goal in mind. The only foundation that is solid is God and His Word. As the old hymn states so effectively, “All other ground is sinking sand

Psalm 127:2 ESV
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Psalm 127:3 ESV
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Psalm 127:4 ESV
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.
Psalm 127:5 ESV
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
