God Calls us to Worship!
Psalm 95:6–7 ESV
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,

Introduction:

Context of Psalm 95:
Psalm 95 is a call to worship and obedience, attributed to the Psalmist who emphasizes the importance of recognizing God’s sovereignty and our relationship with Him. This passage invites us to reflect on our posture in worship and our understanding of God’s care.
Invitation to Worship (Verse 6a):
"Come, let us bow down in worship"
The psalmist extends a communal invitation, emphasizing the importance of worship as a collective act.
Worship is not meant to be done in isolation but as a body of believers.
Bowing down signifies humility and reverence.
It is a physical act that demonstrates our inner attitude of acknowledging God’s greatness and our submission to Him.
Illustration: Consider how subjects would bow before a king in ancient times, recognizing his authority and honor. Similarly, we bow before God in recognition of His supreme authority.
Posture of Worship (Verse 6b):
"let us kneel before the Lord our Maker"
Kneeling is another physical expression of submission and honor to God. It signifies a deeper level of reverence and devotion.
Recognizing God as "our Maker" underscores His authority and our complete dependence on Him. He created us, and we owe our very existence to Him.
Illustration: Think of a potter and the clay. The clay is molded and shaped by the potter’s hands. Similarly, our lives are shaped by God, our Maker.
Reason for Worship (Verse 7a):
"for he is our God"
This statement establishes a personal relationship between God and His people. It’s not just about worshiping a distant deity, but a personal God who knows us and whom we know.Worship is rooted in recognizing God’s identity and our personal connection to Him. He is not just a god; He is our God.
Illustration: Consider the intimacy and pride with which we might say, "This is my father" or "This is my friend." Similarly, we say, "He is our God" with pride and intimacy.
Relationship and Care (Verse 7b):
"and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care"
Imagery of a shepherd and his flock illustrates God's provision, guidance, and protection. As sheep depend on their shepherd for everything, so do we depend on God.
We are not just followers; we are cherished and cared for by God, our Shepherd.
This relationship is one of care, guidance, and intimate knowledge.
Illustration: Reflect on the tender care a shepherd provides to his sheep, leading them to green pastures and protecting them from harm. This is how God cares for us.

Application:

Worship at Church:
Reflect on your personal worship practices at church. Are they characterized by humility and reverence? Do you participate fully in the worship service, both in spirit and in truth?Consider how you can cultivate a heart of worship during corporate gatherings. Are you fully present, engaged, and ready to meet with God along with your fellow believers?
Illustration: Just as a family reunion is more meaningful when every member actively participates, our church worship is richer when each member engages fully.
Worship at Home:
Establish Personal Worship:
Set aside regular time for personal devotions. This includes prayer, Bible reading, and listening to worship music. Create a quiet space where you can meet with God daily.
Illustration: Think of personal worship like tending a garden. It requires regular attention and care to grow and flourish.

Create a family worship routine. This could include reading scripture together, praying, and singing hymns or worship songs. Make it a joyful and integral part of your family life.

Trust in God’s Care:
In Times of Uncertainty:
Trust that as part of God's flock, you are under His constant care and guidance. In moments of uncertainty or difficulty, remember that God, your Shepherd, is always looking after you.
Illustration: Just as a shepherd never abandons his sheep, God never abandons us, no matter the circumstances.
In Everyday Life:
