Keeping the Course

a good old fashion foot race

this last lesson is meant to give you some of the rest of the week put together so you won’t give up on any of them

like we talked about Wednesday, sometimes life will not be easy and having faith will make it even less so

Hebrews 11

we could talk about all of these, but I want to focus on one

Abraham and Isaac

a task that was difficult to understand

Abraham through this entire event had faith in what he knew about the God who had done so much for him already

if God can care for him and his family through all that they went through

if God can provide a son for them at their age

if God can give them victory against insurmountable odds

then God will surely save his miraculous son one way or another

Abraham never seems to doubt that throughout the story

you and I read it at first glance and forget the context and it seems so strange and hard to wrestle with

if I would just have a little faith, it becomes so simple

Jesus in the Garden and on the Cross

maybe a little less simple

Jesus at the end of his ministry

a human man wishing for a less difficult solution

but understanding what must be done regardless

all the power and authority and yet he remains humble

having done all the good that he has and with only one big task left

he continues on and resolves to face what is coming

regardless of his fears or worries

regardless of the pain that is sure to come

he continues for your sake and mine

Paul to Timothy nearing the end

Paul illustrates all of this in a few ways as he is trying to relay some final wisdom to his student and friend

we ought to live doing our very best here and now in this life

understanding the work that has been done for our sake

remembering the way in which we are called to follow their example

and working knowing there is nothing we can do to earn the gift we have been given

so we ought to give all that we have out of respect and admiration for the one who gave that freely despite us
