Psalm 119:16 (CSB): I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
do you find joy in God’s word?
We are to take great pleasure in reading God word. It’s all over Psalms like we heard pastor David talk about psalms 1:2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. we also find it in psalms 119:24 which you’ll hear more about next week, and all over the Bible. Gods word shouldn’t be a drag on our lives. We are to take great joy in Hearing from God. We need to look at it as an opportunity to get a chance to hear from God and be joyful about it. Not look at it as just this is something that I need to do to check the box off of I did my Christian duty today. When we are truly spending time with God and looking forward to that time then we will remember and be able to understand what it is that He is telling us. We need to let our minds be open as we read so that way we can be prepared to hear from God and meditate or think on the scriptures that you just read for the day. Some might think how is this meditating different than the meditating of other religions? Well the difference is that We as Christians study and Meditate to fill ourselves rather than empty our selves. We are not to let God's word go in one ear and out the other. Think about it day and night. People without a relationship with their personal creator are hungering for love happiness meaning and fulfillment but nothing that this planet offers can fully satisfy these longings. God’s word is a gift A story is told of a preacher who many years ago came to a poor couple's home in the mountains. On entering, he saw hanging on the wall a framed $1,000 bill. Surprised, he asked, "Where did you get that?" They replied, "A sick man stopped at our cabin years ago. We nursed him back to health, and when he left, he gave us that pretty little picture. It seemed such a pretty souvenir, that we had it framed. "They were astonished when told how much it was worth and what it could do for them in their poverty, How much more tragic is it when people fail to avail themselves of the riches of God's Word? So many live in spiritual want and poverty when God would meet their every need through the riches of his Word.
We see in vs 11 that I will hide your words in my heart so that I might not sin against you. We need to be remembering the instructions that God has given us. Your word" - the best possession, "I have hidden in my heart" - the best place, "That I might not sin against You" - the best purpose. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (HCSB): All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man, woman, young person of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. Transition Statement: A godly woman was asked “ why do you read the Bible daily”? Her response was because I’m a personal friend of the author.
