Let’s Jump into today’s message.
If you are new to our church today, it would be helpful for you to know that we practice a form of preaching called “Expository Preaching”.
What that means, is we believe the Bible is best taught by taking books of the Bible and then breaking them down from beginning to end, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Our goal, to better understand not only what God’s Word says, but what it means in our lives today.
We are currently walking through the NT book of Matthew.
We have been going through a really long section of Matthew known as the Sermon on the Mount.
Today we are celebrating Father’s Day and I believe that God has divinely worked it out that we would be right here in Scripture.
This is a section on Trusting the Father.
Let’s dive into the Word and then we will break it down.
Matthew 7:7–14 CSB
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him. 12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. 13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. 14 How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.
The Perception of a Father:
The Perception of Manhood:
Recent issues at a Men’s Conference:
Go created Man and then created a Garden for the man to tend to and for God and man to walk in relationship.
In order for us to be what the father has created us to be I truly believe we have to step back and change our perspective on What the true Father is like.
Hebrews 1:3 CSB
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
John 14:9 CSB
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
As we have been Journeying though Matthew we have been discovering the King and what it is to be in His Kingdom.
Jesus’ has spoken to us where blessings in this Kingdom come from through the Beatitudes.
He has taught us how to pray.
He has taught us how to interact with other Kingdom Citizens
Now he is trying remolding the perception of his audience when it comes to Entering the Kingdom.
I believe this is a direct look at how we as Christians can move from the point of simply recieving salvation and walking in God’s Will
I am going to Frame this for all of us but Men as leaders of the Household pay close attention to What we are looking at.
Here are the Keys to the Will of God

1. Communication with the Father

Coming up Empty!
James 4:2–3 CSB
2 You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and wage war. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
The right way to ask.
1 John 5:14–15 CSB
14 This is the confidence we have before him: If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked of him.
Matthew 7:7 CSB
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.
All three of these statements in the Greek Present tense lead to an ongoing process.
Keep on Asking, Keep on Seeking, Keep on Knocking.
Every question with God leads to the next Question.
When we begin to search for God’s Will we get
Matthew 7:8 CSB
8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Jesus frames this in a Parable.
Matthew 7:9–10 CSB
9 Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

2. Re-frame Your View of the Father.

Matthew 7:11 CSB
11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.
The Knife.

3. Lean Into What We Already Have Been Told.

Matthew 7:12 CSB
12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
This is a Summary Statement of the entire Sermon on the Mount.
This is what Rabbi’s call a general principle.
Mark 12:28–31 CSB
28 One of the scribes approached. When he heard them debating and saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which command is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. 31 The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”

In a famous Talmudic story, Rabbi Hillel was one day asked by a non-Jew to summarize all of the Torah while standing on one foot. He obviously wanted the quick answer! Hillel is said to have answered, “What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. This is the whole Torah

Ask a Rabbi a question expect to be on the phone for an hour and to buy 5 books.
Jesus’ frames this summary in a more positive light.
Matthew 7:12 CSB
12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
All 613 commands of the Torah can be summarized by the action of Love.

4. Get on the Right Path!

Matthew 7:13–14 CSB
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. 14 How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.
Jesus is using a common Rabbitical term here for what we translate as Gate.
The word is Bava which means to enter into a Legal Contract.
To enter into a Contract with the World vs. a Contract with Jesus.
To enter into the Narrow Gate with Jesus.
How do I know I am going in the right direction though.
Matthew 7:7 CSB
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.
This all circles back and expands on itself. All we have to do is follow Jesus.
Close.
