Children’s Home: Questions and Answers
1. How could, or can, a beginner Christian lead a sinner to Christ? We pray, study God’s Word, and we tell others what we know about God and what He has done for us.
Romans 1:16 – The Gospel is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.
a. God – Begin with truth about God. You were created by God and for God. You were created to live for God, to reflect Him, and to enjoy Him forever. But something has separated us from God.
b. Sin – Disobedience to God. We all do not do what we should do. No one is perfect. No one keeps God’s Word perfectly. All have sinned and have fallen short (Romans 3:23). The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). We need to be saved from this… But how?
c. Christ – John 3:16 – For God so loved the world…Christ has come to save sinners. Christ died on the cross for sinners, to save us from our sin and the penalty of it. But how do I receive Christ?
d. Faith – Ephesians 2:8-9 – By grace you have been saved through faith. John 6:29 – This is the work of God, that you believe in Him Whom He sent (Jesus). John 1:12 – As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.
Turn from your sins and turn to Christ… and you shall be saved.
2. If you can’t always feel the love of Jesus… Is that bad?
It is bad to feel unloved. It is bad to be unloved. It is bad if God does not love. But what is the truth that gives birth to our feelings? Our thoughts take us somewhere, and our thoughts create feelings…
We must think about what is true and mediate on the love of Christ, which is true.
Romans 10:17 – Faith comes by hearing… over and over again… Romans 5:6 – God has demonstrated His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Galatians 2:20 – The life I live… I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 1 John 4:10 – In this is love… not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son for us… John 15:13 – There is no greater love…
Meditating on Christ… the love of Christ… the words of Christ… over and over again.
3. How do I learn not to get upset with God when bad things happen?
Am I upset because I have sinned or disobeyed god and I am suffering because of my actions or words?
Am I upset because I do not know God is working through this pain? Do I believe that my pain is without meaning or purpose?
Do I have the wrong idea about God?
Scripture helps us to understand God and His ways. Often times, our reasoning is something like this: “God your are all-powerful and you let this happen, and you could have stopped it… But you didn’t? I don’t understand this? I don’t understand the why’ or the how’s or the what’s… And I am mad because I don’t know? I am mad because I am out of control and I can’t fix this? I am mad God.”
Remember who you are, what you are, and remember Who God is and His attributes. We are all going to get and be upset… But to be upset with God… makes us think:
I am upset with the God who created me and everything else, for Him. All of life, my life and every other life is by Him and for Him. This is His story. We are His.
4. How do I stop stress/anxiety? How do I stop doubts and “what if’s?”
There is healthy stress and healthy amounts of anxiety that comes with life’s challenges… but we cannot be master by fears.
Work, schoolwork, project will create stress… to learn, to grow, to make progress… we need a certain amount of stress.
An enemy, a spider, or a snake can produce enough fear and adrenaline to run faster or to fight your way out.
But often times, we are talking about unhealthy amounts of stress, and a lifestyle of living in fears… that control us and hurt us in various ways.
Look at the sheet: How do we make progress? Can we make progress? Yes, we can…
By our faith, we can make progress. Read Philippians 4:6-9; 1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all your cares on God… Why? Because He cares for you…
God is greater than our fears. God is bigger than our enemies. God’s love and mercy is greater than my sin. God’s truth is greater than lies.
5. How to deal with my anger? Read Ephesians 4:26-27 – be angry and do not sin.
Anger in and of itself is not bad or sinful… it is what we do with it.
Our anger can control us and lead us into unhealthy lifestyles. We can be bitter, hurt, unforgiving… why? Because of things that were said and one to us… And then we take it out on others… And we sin against God and others… When we explode on them, hurt them… in some why…
Growing in communication is key. Confessing this to Jesus is key. Practicing God’s word, practicing forgiveness, worship, and prayer is key.
God’s love will drive out anger over time. Rest and grow in His love.
6. How can I talk to God better? Just start. Practice. Pray using Scripture. Us the 3 R’s.
