Mark 5:21–24 “And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea. And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.” Mark 5:35–43 “While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve …”
Faith Is the Victory
A nationwide poll was taken in the United States on religious questions. When asked whether they believed in God, 95 percent of those polled answered “yes.” When asked whether religion in any way affected their politics and their business, 54 percent said “no.” They had a belief, but they did not have a directing faith. Faith is action. Faith encompasses the entire spectrum of life’s encounters and experiences.
Faith is the knowledge of, trust in, and commitment to Jesus Christ that is required for salvation.
I. A Father’s position. (vs 22)
a. When we see the the father’s position, we see faith’s position.
b. It was Christ-ward.
c. Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Jairus is a ruler of the synagogue whose daughter is ill. His status as a religious leader does not keep him from falling at Jesus’ feet now that his daughter is near death. That he seeks out Jesus shows that he has pinned his hopes on him for his daughter’s healing.
II. A Father’s prescription. (vs 23)
a. When we hear the father speak, we hear the voice of faith.
b. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live
Jesus goes with Jairus, but the crowd throngs him so that he can’t go forward. No doubt Jairus is dismayed, as time is of the essence and his daughter has been fading fast.
III. A Father’s Patients. (vs 24-34)
Jairus has to put up with the crowd of people that thronged Jesus while Jesus is on the way to see about his dying daughter.
Jairus has to be patient while the woman with the issue of blood is healed by touching the hem of Jesus’s garment.
While Jairus is waiting patiently, he receives a bad report. 35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
The Heavenly Father’s Promise
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Faith believes and takes a stand when all hope seems lost.
Faith will come to jesus and fall down at His feet.
Faith will speak, and tell Him what you want.
Faith will wave through the crowd and cry lord have mercy on me.
Faith will wait while others receives there blessings.
faith will encourage you while the world around you discourages you.
Another earthly father, Abraham’s Faith in God’s promise.
