title- betrayal

Has anybody seen someone get arrested
or maybe you have watched cops
its not a pretty sight.
its embarrasing for the individual..
I want you to imagine being arrested.
feeling the shame of going into that cop car
getting your picture taken,
now I want you to imagine
that you did nothing wrong…
furthermore your best friend set you up..
maybe he planted a gun in your car
and He wanted to get you arrested so that He could steal the $300 you had saved up and had hidden in your back shed..
This is what were going to read about today..
a betrayal of the worst kind..
Has anyone here been betrayed...
I can remember when my mom told me we were going to get macdonalds and she made us a pot roast instead...
now that was betrayal… jk
but really,
has anyone felt betrayed before..
maybe in relationships....
if you ever face betrayal, or anything terrible like that
put it in the hands of your sovreign God
recap--- Jesus was in the garden
they just ate the passover
the disciples just took part in communion..
and
Judas has ran off to turn in Jesus to the authorities
after their meal, Jesus leaves to the garden of gastheneme’
Jesus prays--- God take away this cup of suffering but nevertheless your will not mine..
in so much anxiety, He begins to sweat blood because He is about to be handed over to be crucified..
He will soon face the cross
but even worse
than pain
He will take on the wrath of God for
humanity…
While He was rebuking the disciples for falling asleep
Judas shows up
Luke 22:47–53 NKJV
And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
As Jesus is speaking to His disciples
A large group
led by Judas.... His friend
approach the band of brothers
Judas has told the pharisees that
the one I kiss will be Jesus
He is the one whom you must arrest
now remember why Judas did this
Matthew 26:15 NKJV
and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.
$273 in todays money
Judas was motivated by money
1 Timothy 6:10 NKJV
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
love of money can get you doing some pretty twisted things
motivated Judas to betray his friend…
Judas was even the treasurer of the group
He always had his mind on money...
WHat does the world say about money..
It will buy happiness.
mo money mo problems
get rich or die tryin
paper chasin
all about the benjamins
The world will tell you to chase money
but be careful because this may take your eyes off of Jesus

Betrayal comes from Idolatry

Idolatry is when you make something else
your God
In the bible we see they made golden calves and worshiped them
today we can look at it like this.
whatever has your heart and affection more than God
in this case Judas was chasing paper instead of chasing God.
It led him to the point
that he was willing to sacrafice Jesus in order to get what he wanted..
Will you be like judas one day…
willing to sacrafice Jesus to do what you want
Story: bros friend
wife left the faith and became progressive...
She pulled a judas
friend of God and christians
in the church for years
and then rebelled
Now Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss...
the sign of love
Proverbs 27:6 NKJV
Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
It is better to have a friend who is going to hurt you with the truth
and give your best intrest
than some one who is going to be fake..
Have you had these friends that when they are in front of you
they have nice things to say
but really they are just being fake…
or maybe your friend is being mean to you
and instead of confronting them you just say something nice and walk away...
it is better to have a friend who is going to tell you when
your acting like a mean person
and its better to be that person who is going to put your friend in check if they are acting shady
Its like this ,,
If my son was picking his nose and eating it
would I be a good dad if I told him
your doing great buddy, i bet that tastes so good…
no it would be a sweet kiss that is leading to betrayl..
I would give him a wound in the spiritual sense of
if you do that again your getting a timeout
or thats disgusting whats wrong with you
Judas is using a kiss yet it is a kiss of death from an enemy..
When the disciples saw that he was going to be arrested
they said Lord shall we strike with the sword…
Their intention was to fight back
Now if a band of police officers came in here
to arrest me for preaching the gospel
Would that be fair?
no
was it fair that Jesuswas being arrested
no
You would probably want to get up and fight Jesus too.
its in our nature
judas wanted to betray Jesus
and the disciples wanted to defend Him
Even so before he got an answer,
Peter takes a sword and cuts off the ear of one of the guards who came to arrest Him
Jesus exclaims.. no more of this
as if to say STOP!

Blessed are the peace makers

Jesus knew his destiny
thats why he was sweating blood
He commited his life to his father
and was ready to face whatever came His way..
As the soldiers came for blood
Jesus was more than willing to give it to them
Matthew 26:52 NKJV
But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.
We even see His love to his enemies as
malchus has his ear chopped off
because well Peter was not that skilled with a sword
he only gets his ear
Yet Jesus touches and heals the man
An act of peace and love to a man who hated Him
lets look at what Jesus said about love for your enemy
Matthew 5:43–44 NKJV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
hate your enemy was added
so Jesus makes the love your neighbor a bit more radical...
Your neighbor includes everyone,,,
including your enemies…
how are you at loving your enemies…
Q. Who is the enemy in your life? vinny..
Jesus says to pray for them
not only that but we need to seek peace with all men
Lets look what Jesus says about peace
Matthew 5:9 NKJV
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
This means that those who do not make peace are not the children of God
We need to be peacemakers in all situations..
Now we all have that friend like peter..
always ready to escelate the situation…
As Jesus proclaimed as peter started swinging
Stop all of this!
Jesus did not condone evil
yet He submitted to God
and He called for peace over the situation..
brings us to our last point

leave your tough situations in the hands of God

Q. What does God is sovreign mean..
God is in control over every situation…
not the author of sin in your life or trials but He allows it
and He has a plan for it.
Jesus knew that His heavenly father was in control of His life…
He also knew that this trial was needful to come..
so Jesus submited in prayer in the garden..
your will not mine..
Jesus was ready to submit to Gods plan for his life, even if it meant major struggle
Jesus closes His arrest with these words to the chief priests and soldiers
Luke 22:52–53 NKJV
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
Jesus has been preaching openly for years
and yet the chief priests needed to arrest him in secret to
avoid being seen by the people who loved Jesus..
In that time police werent protected as much
if the people didnt like what they were doing,, they could revolt against the police and not allow them to take Jesus
just as we saw peter start to do..
peter would have been shot in todays day…
So the pharisees and soldiers arrest Jesus in the night and Jesus proclaims,,
this is your hour and the power of darkness..
Although His darkest hour had come.
Satan had entered judas
the demonic activity had darkened the souls of the pharisees and soldiers
As satan and his demons had put the plan into action
to exterminate the Son of God
However Satan was unaware of Gods plan
A Plan that would take this dark hour
this moment of fear
and turn it into the greatest story ever told…
lets pray
