This is an interactive bible study!
Let’s talk about studying the bible for a bit.
I use google a lot. You can google a thought and see what comes up. I put bible most of the time at the end of my search.
If you know a word in a scripture that comes to your mind, you can go to a concordance either in your bible or in a separate concordance book or even your computer. It will give you where you can find that word.
I have a bible study software called Logos. That’s what I use most of the time.
Look up words, even if it is in the dictionary. That can really help. I like to look at the Hebrew or Greek definitions of the word. A concordance will also define the word in its Hebrew or Greek form.
Always make sure you take a scripture in context!
Is God the Holy Spirit?
Ephesians 4:6: “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
1 John 5:7: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
John 14.
We know that, according to this scripture, that Jesus tells his disciples that He will send the Holy Spirit to live in them.
John 14:15–17: “If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
When we are saved, the Holy Spirit sent by God indwells us.
Let’s continue on in John 14:18–23 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
Notice what verse 23 says: “…and WE will come unto him, and make OUR abode with him.”
So, what is our answer? These three are one. God is the Holy Spirit!
Anxiety, depression, self harm, self acceptance
I think all these can be talked about together because they can go together.
Let me say this: sometimes it may take some professional christian help to help you through these things. I believe God puts people in place just for that, to help people in a christian manner.
Today, we hope to give you some encouragement and help in these areas.
First and foremost, It is imperative that you are saved. He does do good for both the saved and unsaved people in the world, but to take full advantage of God’s help, it is only going to mean something if you trust Him with your life and you trust what His Word says.
I heard someone say that if you are depressed, which I think could go for anxiety, self harm and self acceptance also, just immerse yourself in God’s work. Find something you can do for Jesus. Think about that as we go through God’s Word on these issues. I think there is a lot of truth in what was said.
Anxiety:
Philippians 4:6-7 is probably an old faithful verse for anxiety, and it is a good one.
God does not want you to worry.
Philippians 4:6–7: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” :
Careful here means worry.
What is God telling us here is a solution to worry? Give it to the Lord in prayer!
Supplication is request.
Ask God for help.
1 Peter 5:6–9: “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
It’s so important to be saved. You have to trust that God’s timing is the right timing (due time).
When you think no one cares, Jesus does care about what you are going through, and that is the best One to have caring; someone Who can help!
Jesus can handle all your cares!
While we are here at 1 Peter 5, know this one thing: the devil is not your friend. He is out to destroy you! However, we have someone more powerful than the devil on our side and His name is Jesus!
1 John 4:4: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
There is a spiritual battle going on that we don’t see. The devil is powerful and he is out to get us, but if we put on Jesus, we are protected!
Armor of God in Ephesians 6.
The devil wants you to feel alone. That’s how a roaring lion works; he wants the week ones, the ones that separate themselves from the herd, so he can pounce on them! That’s why a good family and church family is important. They can help you and be there for you!
Video- Herd runs lion off
Notice they went for legs! Armor of God helps us to stand against Satan’s attacks!
Don’t dwell on the bad stuff, think on good stuff. Find the good and let your mind go to those things.
Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
The next verse goes along with doing for the Lord.
Philippians 4:9: “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”
SHALL be with you!
