What He Flees From
What He Flees From
False doctrine that lead to prideful argumentation. (Verses 3-5). Pride will bring downfall. We are to rebuke false doctrine, but then not to associate with it. The idea of pride here is that to be so puffed up with conceit that one is blinded to their own error. It come
The false promises of greed. The problem with covetousness is that it is never satisfied with what it has (verse 6). Daughter of a wealthy movie producer was asked to write a story about a poor family for school. Her essay began: “Once upon a time there was a poor family. The mother was poor. The daddy was poor. The children were poor. The butler was poor. The chauffeur was poor. The maid was poor. The gardener was poor. Everybody was poor.”

We are so glutted with luxuries that we have forgotten how to enjoy our necessities.
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Six: Orders from Headquarters (1 Timothy 6)
the simple-living Quaker who was watching his new neighbor move in, with all of the furnishings and expensive “toys” that “successful people” collect. The Quaker finally went over to his new neighbor and said, “Neighbor, if ever thou dost need anything, come to see me, and I will tell thee how to get along without it.
Greed only focuses upon what it doesn’t have. Contentment is grateful to God for what He has given.
A wise man has learned to trust in God and steward what God has given him. Not be haughty with his riches. (verse 17)
What He Follows After
What He Follows After
God designed men to pursue. To set a plan and seek its fulfillment. Paul says that our primary focus should be on the pursuit of godly character.
Righteousness - right actions. Godliness - right attitude. One has to do with your works, the other has to do with your worship. A man of God does what is right in God’s sight and prioritizes worshiping God with his life.
Faith and love - trust in the Lord and a genuine affection for the wellbeing of others. Men are called to lead their family in trusting the Lord and to demonstrate that trust by love for their family.
What He Fights For
What He Fights For
The doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ! The good fight of faith has to do with holding to what the Bible has proclaimed as the truth and trusting God in your life. Jude 3 “Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.”
He fights for what is of eternal value. What in your life will have impact in 100 years. What will remain for all eternity. Get a grip on what is lasting and eternal. Fight against filling your life up with things that are temporal.
How He Finishes
How He Finishes
A Godly man finishes well. He may stumble at times, but his trust is in the Lord and is faithful to the end.
Psalm 37:23–24 “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.”
Finish well by keeping your focus on the Lord Jesus Christ:
Remember his boldness in the face of human adversaries.
Look for his appearing - 1 John 3:2–3 “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
Remember his glory!
