Psalm 145
Psalm 145
As we celebrate Father’s day today, some of us here can speak very highly of there earthly father and have fond memories of him. Some if you may not have had that all the time, maybe not at all. I believe I can rightly declare to all of us today that every single person on the planet can celebrate our Heavenly Father, regardless of their situation, every moment of their life!
A true believer, as Jesus said, will truly worship God in spirit and in truth!
It seems that the Lord uses all things for us to know of Who He is.......This past Wed. night we studied 1 Cor. 11.........it is a rather sensitive subject that the apostle Paul is dealing with..........It is about women being submissive to the man........This discussion has been a sore spot for many years, however we are missing the main point in the passage.......Let me read a verse 1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
The Head of every man is Christ and the Head of Christ is God..........This is not a subject to be argued, it is to be presented, as truth!
God is the Father of all......James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
Father of lights means the Creator......
Jesus spoke on many occasions of God His Father!
John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”
John 6:38 “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.”
John 4:34 “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”
I am not sure of all your earthly situations as far as parents go, but there is one thing that I hope that you are all here for.........it is to grow closer to your Heavenly Father! To be in His, sons and daughters!
The measure for our praise unto God, is not of earthly things! It must be seen, believed, and loved in the Spiritual or else the TRUE GOODNESS of GOD will not be recognized!
Psalm 145.......The entire chapter......is a powerful, testimony/worship of out Heavenly Father! David penned this most exquisite conclusion to his 73 psalms.........Here, the king of Israel extols and celebrates the King of Eternity for Who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised!
Commitment to praise.....(vs. 1-2)
God’s Awesome Greatness (vs. 3-7)
God’s Great Grace.....(vs.8-13)
God’s Unfailing Faithfulness......(vs. 14-16)
God’s Unblemished Righteousness.....(vs. 17-20)
Exhortation To Praise.....(vs. 21)
If you was to do a study in Scripture of God’s attributes, it would bring you to this praise and worship psalm of David! The level of these attributes can never be exhausted! Because........Lamentations 3:21–25 “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.”
Too much goodness to count.........too much gentleness to count......too much grace too count.....
Verse 1-2.....David speaks of exalting the Lord, placing in the right order, in their worship and in their living!!
He also speaks “Bless Your Name forever and ever.....Every day he will BLESS the Lord.....
What does that word “bless” the Lord God, the Father? Does it mean that we can do something to help Him????
Bless in the Hebrew means: “to cause kneel down, i.e., to be or go to a stance in which one is on the knees as contrasted with standing on the feet, with the back straight or bent (2Ch 6:13; Ps 95:6+), note: in context this position can be a position of worship or humility;
Worship from a place of humility!
Verses 8-10........These verses seem to me to be the basis of God’s goodness, His gentleness......the Glory for mankind! We cannot really worship the Creator any other way......I read this form Octavius Winslow who lived back in the 1800’s.....it is very thick with poetic language but just bare with this text, it defines the true worship of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ!
“Oh, do not study God in the jeweled heavens - in the sublimity of the mountain - in the beauty of the valley - in the grandeur of the ocean - in the murmurs of the stream - in the music of the winds. God made all this, but all this is not God.
Study Him in the cross of Jesus! Look at Him through this wondrous telescope, and although, as through a glass darkly, you behold His glory - the Godhead in awful eclipse, the Sun of His Deity setting in blood - yet that rude and crimsoned cross more fully reveals the mind of God, more harmoniously discloses the perfections of God, and more perfectly unveils the heart of God, and more fully exhibits the glory of God, than the combined power of ten thousand worlds like this, even though sin had never marred, and the curse had never blighted it.
Study God in Christ, and Christ on the cross! Oh, the marvels that meet in it - the glory that gathers round it - the streams of blessing that flow from it - the deep refreshing shadow it casts, in that happy experience of all who look to Jesus and live - who look to Jesus and love - who look to Jesus and obey - who look to Jesus and embrace that blessed "hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before the world began." A worthy structure this of a foundation so divine!............................................”
An excerpt from his book, "The Precious Things of God," pg. 7-8
This is where God’s glorious beauty is realized and experienced.....the physical scenery is wonderful to look at........what are we going to do behold the beauty of that by looking at a picture or travelling to that place everyday???
I can fall on my knees before God because of His Righteousness, because of His Goodness, because of His Grace, Mercy, Gentleness.......when you see Jesus and the reason why He came as fully God, yet fully man, you will then see the true eternal Glory of God, our Father!
In John 12:32 “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
Our view of God’s beauty dwells in Christ....the verse that brings this truth to light is what Jesus said in John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Look at the Son of God........Romans 8:31–32 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
Verse 13......David tells us that God’s Kingdom is everlasting, unlike all the other seemingly great kingdoms of earth, God’s Kingdom will be the only one standing when all is said and done.
Everything that is written is about this eternal Kingdom.....Jesus said in John 18:36 “Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.”
Verse 18......When we see God the Father in the right way, through Jesus Christ.......you can call upon this gracious, Good, Father!
Jesus Christ in His perfection and faithfulness to God, opens the window of our understanding that we have sinned and come short of the glory of God!
We become in dire need for deliverance........God being holy, could in no way have fellowship with sinful flesh, even that flesh that He created, because nothing defiled can enter into His presence!
Also, God being Righteous, could in no way excuse sin, could in no way give sin a pass, it had to be dealt with.......we look at sin as a thing, or an act............the sin comes and goes but the stain is forever......the wages of sin is death......if you do not believe that and if there is any way you could, ask Adam and Eve that.......now we are stained with sin, forever!
The sinner must be purged and the stain of sin destroyed, Jesus did that, the penalty that is due for sin (eternal death/torment) Jesus took for all!
Hebrews 9 & 10 speak of this Glorious Truth.........Hebrews 9:28 “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
Hebrews 10:10 “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
This is the truth in which we are saved, delivered, brought into our Father’s glory.......this is how we can speak of God, as David does!
Back in verse 10.....David said that God’s work shall speak of God’s glory......
This wonderful work of Jesus Christ in the believer speaks of the actual beauty of God, what is truly glorious!
The world will see the believers humbling themselves to a Holy, Pure, Powerful, Just, yet, Merciful, Gracious, Good, Gentle!
I love the value of the word “Gentle”......The meaning of it is so powerful to someone, who does not deserve gentleness!
Some will read of some of the hard things that have been done in the Bible.....
The flood
Sodom and Gomorrah
Ananias and Sapphire
Many others.......
Some will read of these events and others and ask “why is God so harsh?”
I read of these and then I see Jesus and then I see my life and living and I ask.... “Why is God so gentle?”
David wrote in Psalm 18:35 “Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: And thy right hand hath holden me up, And thy gentleness hath made me great.”
I will close with what David declared to do....... “Everyday I will bless (kneel my life humbly before God) and every day will I give God the rightful honor and glory that is due Him!!!
God is greatly to be praised when prayers are answered, but also when no prayer is given or no answer to prayer is found!
