Teaching what sin is

What if (when) do

Two reactions to Sin

We despise it

Romans 6:1–4 “1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
We have an advocate
The price has been paid
For All

We reject the idea that we sin

We have loosened up on sin over time
Divorce, excuses for sin
“ at least we dont have ___”

How we know we Love him

Keep the commandments
Works based? by no means
Ephesians 2:8 “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,”
Desire, motivation, compelled
We Should look like Him

What are the commandments

What does Scripture say
What does Jesus say specifically
Love your neighbor- Matthew 22:37–40 “37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””
Do unto others- Matthew 7:12 “12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
Forgive- Matthew 18:21–22 “21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.”
Love Your enemies- Matthew 5:43–48 “43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
