Okay, so last week we went through what the ten commandments were! Does anyone here remember any them?
Today, we are going back to learn about one of them. Because of what today is, I think its important we dig into this one a little more.
Can anyone guess which one I’m referring to?
honor your father and mother!!
Im going to open y’all s minds on this a bit. Can anyone tell me what honor is?
Honor means to have high respect. To be put in a place of importance.
We have talked about obeying, that means dont lie, say yes sir and yes ma’am, if your mom tells you to clean your room, obey, if your mom says no you cannot go to your friends house, respect that. Dont talk back, and dont be mean to them.
And the Bible says Ephesians 6:2-3
“Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise:
If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
That is the verse with a promise!!
Now, today is Fathers day....but did y’all know that a father does have to be your actual father? Sometimes things happen. A father can be like a grandparent, a uncle, a close friend who basically adopted you! Its a father figure!! Does anyone have anyone specific they think of?
Most importantly…we have the heavenly Father…God!! Who is the ultimate father!! He protects us, loves us, when we disobey he forgives if we ask for forgiveness but also punishes like a father does. That is the single most important relationship we can have in our whole entire life!
So, today, be thankful for the heavenly Father, tell him so! But also to the man who is close like a father to you, love them, honor them, respect them....and it will go well for you.
