“If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25). Living as a new creation compels us to live above our “animal” nature. We are not the sum total of our desires, our lusts, or our impulses. We do not have an inherent right to live by our desires. Living as a new creation means that I seek to align my desires and impulses with the will of God. In living under the control of the Spirit we are under authority to manage our desires in keeping with what it means to “walk by the Spirit.” To live under the Spirit’s control results in a new kind of personal empowerment.
