Have you all ever heard of a Story called the Emperors New Clothes? The Emperors New Clothes is about an Emperor who loved to wear the finest best looking clothes in the land, and He loved being the best dressed everywhere he went. He had a new set of clothes for each day of the week and two sets for Sundays. This emperor loved his clothes so much that he had his subjects looking for the finest threads to make new clothes for him. He also loved when his subject complimented his outfits. The emperor's love for fancy clothes was known all throughout the land.
One day two men came with a big bag and told the emperor that they were the best tailors in the world. They said that they could make an outfit so fancy that that only wise people could see it. So the emperor told the men to make him this fancy outfit.
So the men began to work on the clothing spinning the clothes that could not be seen. After they worked on these clothes for days they told the emperor that the clothes were ready and they presented the clothes to the emperor, the clothes that they said only wise people could see. However the emperor could not see the clothes, but since that would mean he wasn't wise he acted like he could see the clothes.
So when it was time the emperor had the two men put the new fancy clothes on him and he wore it out for everyone to see. Since everyone else also knew that only wise people could see the clothes they all played along as if he was wearing fancy clothes.
Then a child saw the emperor and pointed saying “the emperor has no clothes!”
The crowd began the murmur and then the people and the emperor realized that they had been tricked by the two men.
Just like the king and the people were deceived by the two men. Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent.
Today that is what we are going to talk about, we are going to talk about what the truth is and what we should always listen to and know is truth.
The Big Idea- Truth comes from God.

Truth Comes From God.
The Bible is Gods Word.
Followers of Jesus do what the Bible says.
So the main text that we are looking at in the Bible today comes from Genesis 2 and Genesis 3.
Before Genesis two and three in Genesis one it talks about What God did, and what He did was create everything in six days. God made mankind in his image and He also told them to rule over the earth and everything on it and to be fruitful and to multiply. This ment that they were to multiply other humans that were followers of God.
Genesis 2:8–9 NKJV
The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
So here we see that God made a garden that had everything that mankind would need to live and he placed them in this garden.
Genesis 2:15–17 NKJV
Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
So here God took Adam and placed him in the garden and told Him to take care of the garden. But then God told Adam not to do something.
Who can tell me what God told Adam not to do?
Yes, He told Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Was Eve there when God told Adam this command?
Keep that in mind as we move to the next part of this true story. But before we go to the next part of the story we are going to talk about Gods Character.
Numbers 23:19 NKJV
“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Titus 1:2 NKJV
in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
Hebrews 6:18 NKJV
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
These three verses all have something in common that they are saying about God. What is it that they are all saying?
Yes God does not lie.
So if God does not lie then when he speaks what does he speak?
Truth, yes every world of God is true.

Genesis 2:18–22 NKJV
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
So here God allowed Adam to name all of the creatures that God created but God saw that Adam needed a helper who was like himself and He made Eve.
Since God made Eve after Adam and God gave Adam the command not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil, whose responsibility was it to tell this Word of God to Eve?
It was Adam’s responsibility to take care of the Garden and everything in it and he was to keep the Word of God and tell it to Eve reinforcing what God had said.

Genesis 3:1–6 NKJV
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
So there were a few issues here, God had made mankind in His image and he told them to rule over all of creation. However Satan in the form of an animal tricked Eve. Adam and Eve were to rule over the Animals. Then Adam who was supposed to tell Eve what Gods word was and enforce Gods word disobeyed God by taking the forbidden fruit from Eve!
So Adam was told by God not to eat of the forbidden fruit, Eve also was told this by Adam, but she knew this was Gods Word. Who should Adam and Eve listened to when the Serpent said something was true that was different then what God said?
Why should they have listened to God?
So who should we listen to today? Our friends? What TV says? or What the Bible says?
We should listen to what the Word of God says. So earlier we saw that God does not lie. And the Bible is the written Word of God. This is how we know what is right and what is wrong, this is how we know how we are to live our lives.
The Bible is the written inspired word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
So just like Adam and Eve were to listen to God over anyone or anything that says anything different from what He says. We also are to listen and obey Gods Word.
So Adam sinned against God by disobeying the only command that he had been given to abstain from, or not to do.
This damaged the relationship between God and Mankind because God does not dwell with Sin.
But in Gods Love and Kindness he gives us a solution that we will see in the text coming up.

Genesis 3:9–15 NKJV
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Here in Genesis 15 God gave a solution for the problem of sin. This seed of the woman that God is referring to is Jesus who would be born from a woman, die on the cross and be raised from the dead defeating death and satan.
This allowed us to have a right relationship with God if we admit that we have sinned against God and turn from those sins, believe that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, and to Acknowledge Jesus as Lord of all including of your life.
