Introduction:
Satan is real (Jn8:44)
44 “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
He tempts man, he is the tempter, Satan, the devil (Rev12:9; ref: Mt4:10)
He is the great dragon, the serpent of old, the devil, satan, deceiver of the world! (summary of Rev12:9)
He sifts men (ref: Lk22:31); the whole world lies in his power (ref: 1Jn5:19)
Satan asked to sift Peter as wheat
He is deceiver, murderer, described as a roaring lion; (Jn8:44; 1Pt5:8; disguised as an angel of light (2Cor11:14)
8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
and then
14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Satan was directly involved in the fall of man (Gen3:1ff)
Aim:
Aim:
To show Satan’s plan, his aim as it relates to man and his redemption
To make known the devils methods and procedure for accomplishing his deceitful devices.
Outline:
Outline:
Satan’s aim: To estrange man from his maker and God
To get into man’s heart and mind (Lk8:12; ref: Mt13:29)
12 “Those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.
To get between man’s spirit and his God
To gain the rightful place of the Most High (you know, the exact reason was expelled out of heaven)
To get man to lean on, trust, rely and put confidence for himself
To get God’s creatures to become his subjects and his children (1Jn3:7-10)
7 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.
Satan’s method: To replace God’s truth with his own lies passing them off as truth.
We know Satan is a liar, the father of lies (Jn8:44)
We can know Satan wants to falsify truth (i.e. Gen3; Rev12)
Satan’ procedure (Gen3:1-5)
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’ ” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
First by raising doubt (3:1)
in which he challenges God’s character, His integrity
He implies God did not mean what He said (Gen2:17)
17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
Second, he selfishly substitutes his own word for God’s (3:4)
Third, he subtly reflects on God’s goodness and perfection (3:5)
* He is withholding from you
* If man, or in this case, Eve, would believe him, she would have something to gain from him, lose, from God (2Tim2:22-26) - - - - don’t get deceived
22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. 24 The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
Recently we looked at the Fall of man, Genesis chapter 3 and we will refer back there again today too (Gen3:1-5) then also (Eph6:11, Rev12:9)
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
and
9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
In this you can see a summary of Satan’s strategy and trickery, deception)
He spoke to the woman alone (v.1)
He introduced doubt in subtle way (v.1)
He denied connection between sin and it’s consequences (v.4)
He questioned God’s truthfulness (v.4)
He charged God with envy (v.5)
He appealed to selfish pride and ambition (v.5)
to decry God’s justice
to distrust God’s truth
to doubt God’s mercy
to dishonor God’s love
Satan’s target: How he tempts (2Cor2:11, Eph6:10-16; 1The5:13)
11 so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
and Eph6:10-16
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
He attacks the physical body, the eyes, she “saw” (3:6)
He attacked desires/emotions, the senses “was pleasant - the soul (3:6)
He attacks to the intelligence of man, “to make one wise,” this is the Spirit
These are the same things Satan used with Jesus in the desert; also you read in (1Jn2:15-17)
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
Learn from history, from the fall (Gen3) and the identification of the liar (Jn8:44)
We need to know, be aware of Satan’s ways, tools, trickery; it is real (1Pt5:8)
Don’t be ignorant to his devices (2Cor2:11)
