Hey Guys, I was looking online the other day, and I was looking for something that can only be done one way. It was really hard to find, near impossible. You can chew gum more than one way, with your mouth open and with it closed. You can play games different ways. You can get to locations in the world by different means of traveling.
Do you guys know of anything where there is only one way to do it?
Big Idea- Jesus is the only way to have eternal life.
Take Aways
Take Aways
Jesus is the way to eternal life.
Jesus has prepared a place for those who place their trust in Him.
Jesus will return to take those who are His and to Judge those who reject Him.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
Here Jesus tells the disciples to believe in Him just as they believe in God.
Why would Jesus say such a thing? Why should the disciples believe in Jesus just as they believe in God?
The disciples should believe in Jesus just as they do God because Jesus is God. Isaiah 9:6 says.
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
This is a prophesy that spoke about Jesus long before he came to earth as a baby where he then lived a perfect life and died on the cross for our sins. This Jesus is God, He is 100% God and 100% man.
Back to the text. John 14:2-4
In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
What is this place that Jesus is describing as having many mansions?
The place that Jesus is describing is Heaven! He is describing the place where Gods presence is.
Here he is talking to the disciples letting them know that he is preparing this place for them.
Who else was Jesus preparing a place for besides those disciples?
Jesus was preparing a place in heaven for all of those who put their faith in Him. This includes all believers including past present and those who will put their faith in Christ.
This includes those of you who are Christ followers today and those of you who will follow Him in the future.
Jesus was preparing a place for believers but he will come back again for his people in the future and He will bring his people to dwell with Him forever.
Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
After Jesus prepares a place for believers, He will return and we do not know the exact day or time that He will return. But when he returns it will be to take his people to be in the Presence of God forever, he will also judge those who have denied Him and those who are enemies of Christ.
There is only one way to get salvation and that is through Jesus, any other way leads to death, separation from God and the wrath of God.
Back to the main text John 14:5-6
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
So here Thomas didn't understand at this point what Jesus was saying in regards to where Jesus was going to go to prepare a place. But later on Jesus would reveal this to Him and we know because of the Word of God.
Where was Jesus going to go to prepare a place for the disciples?
Yes Heaven.
In Verse 6 Jesus lets the disciples know that the only way to have a relationship with the Father is through placing your faith in Jesus.
Back to the main text John 14:18-20
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.
At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
Who can tell me what an orphan is?
An orphan is someone who does not have parents, there parents have died or left them.
So here when Jesus says that He will not leave them as orphans and that He will come to them He is talking about His death and Resurrection.
This conversation took place before Jesus was killed and He died on the Cross and rose again. But Jesus told His disciples that this would happen.
When Jesus is saying that because He lives we will live also he is talking about eternal life.
See Jesus was the first to rise from the dead and to have his eternal body. But we will also be given eternal bodies when he returns and those of us who place our faith in Him will live in His presence forever.
We will go to Acts 1:9-12 where it is talking about what happened after Jesus died for our sins and was raised from the dead.
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey.
So here we see that Jesus rose from the dead just as He said He would and He went back to heaven to prepare a place for those who place their faith in Him. When Jesus left two Angels reminded the disciples that Jesus will return.
Now this promise that Jesus will return is still going to come to pass. We will not know the day or the hour but when he comes he will come for those who place their faith in Him and who follow Him. Having a relationship with Christ is the only way to have eternal life.
If you are not a follower of Christ, you can be. If you feel God drawing you to follow Him this is how you do it.
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
When it is talking about confessing the Lord Jesus it is saying that you acknowledge that He is the Lord of all including every area of your life. This means that you listen and do what he tells you to do. This also means that you believe the Gospel, that Jesus died for your sins and rose again.
If you want to commit your life to Christ and Follow Him then grab myself or one of the other believers here and we can walk you through committing your life to Christ.
