The month was originally known as the seventh month:
Genesis 8:4 “And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.”
It will now be known as the first month Abib:
Exodus 13:4 “This day came ye out in the month Abib.”
These are the DESCRIPTIONS of the Passover Lamb:
I. The Proven Lamb. v.3
I. The Proven Lamb. v.3
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
“a lamb”
The Lamb was tested.
Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
The Lamb was triumphant.
1 Peter 2:22 “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:”
The Lamb was testified.
There was not a priest in all Israel that would testify to Christ being perfect and without blemish.
God used a gentile politician to declare this four times in the Bible.
Luke 23:4 “Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.”
John 18:38 “Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.”
John 19:4 “Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.”
John 19:6 “When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.”
II. The Perfect Lamb. v.4
II. The Perfect Lamb. v.4
And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
“the lamb”
The lamb was prophesied.
1 Peter 1:20 “Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,”
The lamb is preeminent.
Colossians 1:18 “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”
The Lamb was presented.
John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
III. The Personal Lamb. v.5
III. The Personal Lamb. v.5
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
“Your lamb”
1 Corinthians 5:7 “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”
