Our God

I would like to start a new series on the book of Psalms

The book of psalms expresses worship. Psalms encourages people to worship God for who He is and what he has done, filled with songs and poetry, but is also a prophetic book.

Today I would like to talk about That “Our God , is a Personal God, He is our God.

I would like For us to go to a very familiar psalm, 23

Psalm 23 is probably one of the most well-known passages in the bible, people that don’t read the bible or know God know psalm 23 many people knows John 3;16 by memory but psalms 23 is recognize by everyone. as I was growing up was used in every funeral, including funerals in movies on tv. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen anymore, I was looking for the last movie who used psalm 23 in a funeral, it was almost a decade ago.

Psa 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psa 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

Psa 23:3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Psa 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psa 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

There are a few things God wants to reveal to us this morning, that is for today, and are very practical is not for when you die or after death.

1 Our Shepherd

Psa 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The Lord, Yahweh, Jehovah, the great’ I “Am who I ‘Am is my Shepherd

David was writing from his own experience and revelation.

David watched over his family sheep, he cared for them, protected them with his own life.

From the few sheep herders that I know and talked to, during the past years, they tell me that sheep are very dumb they need to be taking care off or they will do stupid things, and they are prone to wander.

Sheep require more care than any other herd,

Back in 2005 in Eastern Turkey there were 1500 sheep gathered in one spot, There were several flocks with several shepherds that all got together, they put all the sheep in one place together and went to have breakfast, apparently no one was watching the sheep suddenly one little sheep had an great idea, I’m going to jump over that cliff, and he did, apparently all the other sheep thought, he knows where he is going, so 400 sheep followed him until they found out that 400 sheep died, going over the cliff, the lost was 74 thousand dollars.

They are prone to wander.

Sounds just like us

Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

As a shepherd He will guide us.

A shepherd needed to love and see the value of his sheep.

David’s revelation was, He is my shepherd, He loves and cares for me, He knows what I need and He provides for me, I will not have needs or wants. He takes care of everything for me.

Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Joh 10:12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.

Joh 10:13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

Joh 10:14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,

Joh 10:15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jesus introduced Himself to us as the Good Shepherd.

2 He cares for our soul, our emotional and mental my well being

Psa 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

Psa 23:3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

He takes me to places that He watches over me, He is our personal guide

He leads me besides still waters, a sheep is dumb enough to get into rough waters and drown .

He restores my soul, my emotional and mental health in life we experience hurt, rejection, failures, He restores us,

Psa 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Psa 100:3 Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Psa 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

In His presence we are filled with Joy

Psa 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

3 He is with us, during the hard times

Psa 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Now He is speaking direct to the Lord I will fear no evil, because you are with me.

In this life not everything is going to be green pastures and still waters, we will face some dark valleys, some times is the way to the green pasture, Know that your shepherd is with you and He will comfort you.

If I’m in eminent danger, or just received a medical report that is a sentence of death, I will fear no evil because Jesus is with me.

Ex Just a few years ago Jul 2021 COVID was picking up strength and began to send many people to the hospital, it almost took me out, my grand daughter that was 11 months old became sick with a cold we thought, but in days her mom became very sick, than my wife got sick, so we took them to the clinic for testing they all had COVID.

9 days later after a partial quarantine because they needed the help my son Christian and I began to have some symptoms, one day I woke up about 8:30 I usually I’m out of bed by 6:00 and later I was cleaning the bathroom and my Clorox had no smell, so we checked again and after 4 testes it confirmed I had COVID. I was fine for a few days because I had to help the rest of the family, than one morning Kim notice that my breathing was not normal she sent me to the hospital, I got there they gave me a shot of morphine and send me home again, next day my breathing was worse but I was going back there. It got so bad that she used her familiar treat, we actually treat each other this way if we don’t want to go to the hospital we treat to call our son because when he evaluates the situation he asks us are you going to the hospital or shall I send an ambulance? We usually go.

So I went got there they immediately send me to the ICU I had covid and a double pneumonia.

Never fear death but after 5 days I though my time had come, the antibiotics were not working and my kind Dr came to talk to me and said if your need for oxygen does not improve I need to intubate you, sometimes the heart stops, would like for me to revive you or to let you go?

By this time my wife had contact everyone we knew and their friends to pray for us, thank Mokuaikaua for praying for me.

That night Jul 28 One of our friends from Norway send me a text it was 3 am for me what would probably be 3 pm for him.

And he said I just finished worshiping with my group and we were praying for you and the Lord asked me to send these two songs for you one I wrote just for you.

I was awake so I began to listen, immediately my room was filled with light and I felt the presence of God, waves of electricity felt like were going up and down my body, I was crying but I knew God was touching me and healing me, when everything was done I knew I was healed. When the nurse came 3 hrs later she reduced my air to 30, she came back at 1pm reduced to 3 by 8 pm she took down to 1, I slept with one but in the morning when she came back at 6 she said you have to breath on your own still to high. So I was out of the in another few days.

The muscle atrophy was another story it took me 2 months to get back to the gym.

Death is not the worse thing that can happen to us, sometimes is just your beloved Father welcoming you home, just a promotion, He loves you and it is our final destination.

This week our friend Jake went to be with Lord after his battle with cancer, the Lord was with him and his family, love to all of you.

4 Our God, is our Hosts.

Psa 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Now He is the host

My Heavenly Father prepares a table before us, in the presence of our enemy.

While I’m facing my enemy the Lord prepares a table for me, with everything I need emotionally physically and spiritually,

He refreshes us and gives to us in abundance.

Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

Our God is

Our Shepherd

He cares for our souls

He is with us during the hard times.

He is our Host.

To receive Jesus we need to accept Him as God’s son, repent from our sins and a life of selfishness, and we need to ask Him to be our Lord and savior, not that we deserve it, but is a gift from God.

Heavenly Father I’m sinner,

I’m sorry for my sins,

I’m willing to turn away from my sins.

I receive Christ as my savior,

I confess him as Lord

from this moment on

I want to follow and serve him,

in the fellowship of his church,

In Jesus name. Amen!

1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;

1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke itand said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

1Co 11:25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.

1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks thiscup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

Heb 9:14 dead works, acts, sins
