Who gives Tatiana to marry Terrance?
You all may be seated.
Welcome everyone, we are gathered here today in the sight of God, and the presence of friends and family, to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, the special love and marriage between Terrance and Tatiana.
Terrance and Tatiana, your marriage today is the public and legal joining of your souls that have already been united as one in your hearts.
Let us begin with a prayer: Father God we thank you for being here with us today and for your blessing on Terrance and Tatiana. We thank you for bringing them together and we ask that you would fill this wedding day with joy and celebration. Amen.
Message (5 minutes)
Terrance and Tatiana, as you well know, marriage is the most important of all earthly relationships. It is to be entered into reverently, thoughtfully, and with full understanding of its sacred nature. Your marriage must stand by the strength of your love and the power of faith in God and each other. And with that, your marriage won’t just survive, it will thrive.
What we all are witnessing today between these two is the death of 2 individual lives and the birth of a single new life - living with and for each other in a powerful covenant.
This will require self-sacrifice and self-denial for the good of the other. Author, CS Lewis writes that our self-sacrifice and self-denial is not an end in itself but rather it creates the capacity to then accept our spouse’s ways and desires. The point of marriage being a lifestyle of giving rather than taking, that is why we call it a covenant and not merely a human contract.
In a marriage covenant, we acquire a status as husband and wife, we do not simply agree to provide a product or service as in a simple contract but rather, we pledge our very selves for better or for worse. Marriage is not self-serving but self-giving. Contracts are easily broken when they no longer yield the desired benefits but covenants endure till death. A marriage covenant says, my life is yours forever.
In truth, real love can only be displayed in a covenant. Love is much more than a sentimental feeling or a rush of emotions, love is consistent, committed and faithful. Love continues to give and will the good of your spouse regardless of how we may feel in the moment. Love never fails.
And now the two of you are leaving your individual lives and beginning a new life in union with each other where your identity and life has new meaning and purpose. Terrance, Tatiana, Collin and Conner - enjoying and doing life together.
I've had the wonderful privilege of being a long-time friend of Terrance, I always felt safe on the rink when he was on my team because I am convinced he would kill someone for me. Really would. That my friends is true love.
And I have had the joy of getting to know his love, his bride, Tatiana and I am so blessed to see the love and respect the two of them have for each other and the love and care that Tatiana has for Collin and Conner. This union between the 2 of you is beautiful and it will continue to take both of you, in good times, and tough times to pursue growth in your relationship. We don't grow as better husbands and wives automatically over time, it takes intentional effort and commitment… A commitment to honor one another. Romans 12:10 says to be devoted to one another in love and to honor one another above yourselves.
Everyday the two of you will be given the opportunity to love and show honor or pursue being right and winning arguments - but you can't do both. Always remember that because the two of you are becoming one - when one of you wins and the other loses, you both lose. But when you choose love and honor, sacrifice and compromise, you both win.
Terrance & Tatiania, it is God’s great desire that your marriage prosper and flourish and that you would show your boys what true love and sacrifice looks like.
