Acts 5:30–34 NKJV
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” 33 When they heard this, they were furious and plotted to kill them. 34 Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while.
Acts 5:40–41 NKJV
40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Genesis 22:8 NKJV
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
This provision
Answered a question
Was a declaration of Abraham’s trust
++A response to Abraham’s Obedience
Genesis 22:13 NKJV
13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

Jesus was the Power to Jacob

This power
++Did not come in the crowd
Genesis 32:24 NKJV
24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
This power
Did not come in the crowd
++Did not come without a struggle
Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
This power
Did not come in the crowd
Did not come without a struggle
++Did not come without a price
Genesis 32:25 NKJV
25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.
This power
Did not come in the crowd
Did not come without a struggle
Did not come without a price
++Came with a blessing
Genesis 32:28–29 NKJV
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there.
Acts 5:30 NKJV
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.

Jesus was Cruxified

He was
++Chosen By God
++Murdered by You

His blood is on your hands

When truth is revealed

When confronted by truth
++We are compelled to respond
++We can repent or retaliate

They got angry enough to kill them

Acts 5:33 NKJV
33 When they heard this, they were furious and plotted to kill them.
They believed
++They did the right thing
++The apostles had no authority over them

Voice of reason

Acts 5:34 NKJV
34 Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while.

The Apostles were on the outside

On the outside
++They had no voice
++They had no control
++They were powerless
Behind closed doors
++They were the topic of discussion
++There fate was being decided
While they were on the outside
++God was still working
++God on the inside
God is not

++Dependent on our activity

Suffering for Christ Name

Acts 5:40–41 NKJV
40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Everyone has a choice

Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
To suffer for Christ
++Was not joyous
++Was not pleasant
Romans 8:18 NKJV
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
To suffer for Christ
Was not joyous
Was not pleasant
++Is temporary
1 Peter 4:12–14 NKJV
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
1 Peter 4:16 NKJV
16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.

I Will Rejoice!
