Introduction

Exodus 26:31–33 ESV
“And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.
We have been blessed to be in the process of walking through the Word of God. Through this process we’ve, learned, that even in the beginning of the book of Genesis all things in the Word of God point back to Jesus Christ revealed.
Jesus was there in the beginning during the inception of the garden of Eden.
He was seen in the Spirit of God hovering over the waters
He was seen in the creation of light,
we know this as Jesus is the light of the world
He was there when God said let US make man in our image
we are all images of God
He was also there during the great deception and fall of man
When he spoke and said to the serpent according Gen 3:15
Genesis 3:15 ESV
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
He was there as the ark of Noah
Noah and his family found safety in the Ark just as we find safety in the Ark of Jesus when we call upon his name
Joel 2:32 ESV
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls.
In all of Exodus Jesus was there. He was there as the ark of Moses
He was there as the burning bush
He was there as the blood offering that protected the first born of Israel during the plague of Egypt
And He is here all throughout the tabernacle
With scripture revealing Jesus all throughout the Word of God, we’ve found that our Lord has always desired one thing since the inception of humankind.
to dwell among His People
We understand this to be so because of our text here in Exodus as we unpack the understanding of the tabernacle
First, the word “tabernacle” is the Hebrew word miskan, a word that means “dwelling place,” from a root form that may literally mean “pitch a tent.” God has made a promise that He is going to “pitch His tent” among us.11 Maxie Dunnam and Lloyd J. Ogilvie, Exodus, vol. 2, The Preacher’s Commentary Series (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Inc, 1987), 283.
In John 15, Jesus uses the word “abide.” In the Greek this is the same word from which “dwelling place” comes in the Hebrew. He talks about our abiding in Him as He abides in the Father, and the Father abides in the Son.11 Maxie Dunnam and Lloyd J. Ogilvie, Exodus, vol. 2, The Preacher’s Commentary Series (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Inc, 1987), 283.
Back in the desert, God took the initiative to pitch His tent among us, to dwell with men, and now through Jesus, He has come to abide among us in the flesh, in order to complete that revelation, but also to provide a way for us to abide, to dwell, in Him.11 Maxie Dunnam and Lloyd J. Ogilvie, Exodus, vol. 2, The Preacher’s Commentary Series (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Inc, 1987), 283–284.
The tabernacle was represented as the place where God met with men, and it was at the center of Israel’s camp.
Just as the presence of God was the center of Israels camp (life) … so should the presence of God be the presence of our lives
I am concerned, that the presence of God is not the center of our lives like we claim it is and should be!
More concerned with fellowshipping than Fasting
partying over praying
brunching more than bearing witness of Jesus
God wants to be at the center of our lives!!
The tabernacle was represented as the place where the law was preserved.
The first piece of furniture built was the ark of the covenant, the container for the law that God had given on Sinai. That word was at the center of the people’s life, and that which represented most clearly the covenant was the focus of their worship.
The tabernacle was represented as the place where sacrifice was made
The tabernacle was represented as a place of worship
In the formation of the tabernacle it’s developed into 3 parts
Outer Court
Holy Place
Holies of Holies
Each development of the formation of the Tabernacle is a representation and extension to the relationship we form and develop with God. It speaks to the levels that we can find the deeper we dig into Him
Outer Courter is a representation of salvation, redemption
It reflects what most churches have become
Doing just enough to make it into Heaven
In the outer court there’s dancing, slinging of blood, chants, and music playing
We do just enough to get inside of the presence of God but lack the integrity to go deeper into God
My concern is that we’ve become surface level Saints
Inner Court is a representation of Sanctification
It reflects the need to deeper into the unity of our relationship with God
we allow the light of the lamp stand to reflect who we are inside of whom he is
We allow the table of showbread to feed us the Word of God
We allow the incense to usher us into intercession
In the Most Holy place the Ark of the Covenant was placed here. It was placed at the most inner part of the Tabernacle. It was the place reserved for the Glory of God
When we get to the vail it reflects a truth to us according to Exodus 26:33
Exodus 26:33 NASB95
“You shall hang up the veil under the clasps, and shall bring in the ark of the testimony there within the veil; and the veil shall serve for you as a partition between the holy place and the holy of holies.
There is a place called Holy (Holy Place) and a place that is Holy (Holies of Holies)
You can be in a place called Holy and lack holiness
we can be in church, the holy place, and in pride, opposite of holiness
.

The Vail Speaks to the Saviors Sacrifice for me

Exodus 26:31–32 ESV
“And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver.
v. 31 shows us the
Blue: Sonship of Jesus or Him as Spiritual One

Blue is the heavenly color, typifying Christ as the spiritual One. The Book of Hebrews described him as “holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens” (Heb. 7:26).

Purple: sacredness of Jesus (kingship)
Revelation 19:16 ESV
On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
Scarlet: Sacrifice of Jesus
Revelation 5:9–10 ESV
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
This speaks to our ability to be like Jesus Christ. We are to be sons, we are to be sacred, we are to sacrifice
hung on 4 pillars
symbolysm of 4 gospels
pillars of gold
deity
pillars of silver
redemption
pillars made out of wood
v. 32 reveals
the vail is Jesus Christ
Hung upon gold
Gold: is symbolized as the deity of Jesus
it’s a representation of the Godhood of Jesus Christ
Silver Bases
a symbol of redemption
foreshadows the redemptive power of Christ
in Him all mankind is saved
placed on a foundation of wood
speaks to the sacrifice of Christ upon the cross

The Vail Stands in the Gap for me

Exodus 26:33 ESV
And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.
It seperates me from the Glory
Glory will Kill what is unkept
Acts as a barrier to keep me from self sabotaging myself in the splendored presence of the savior
on the vail are cherubims
The word Cherubim means intercession
As the vail stands in the gap for us, it makes intercession for us before we cross over into the Holies of Holies
It’s an example of grace and mercy

The Vail Speaks to my Victory in the Savior

Take it Away
Exodus 26:33 ESV
And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.
In the Old Testament we had to come before the vail to access God’s glory
In the New Testament We have access to the Glory and victory in Jesus Christ
in the Old Testament The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur)
The feast of blowing of trumpets was followed ten days later by the Day of Atonement. This period between the two feasts was a time of penitence in preparation for the High Priest to come into the presence of God … Lev. 23:27, 28)“it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. And you shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God” (.
1 time a year the people could go up into the presence of God through 1 man, a high priest
The high priest would offer a sacrifice of blood after Rosh Hashanah, a time period remembering the goodness of God, and to reflect on the saving they needed from God
The 1 high priest would go in before the people of God to make a sacrifice, but if his sacrifice was not received the peoples sins would go another year without being forgiven
If you died without your sins being forgiven you’d go to hades
Hebrews 10:5–10 (ESV)
Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,
“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;
in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ ”
When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:16–17 ESV
But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
