Cheapening the Law
Cheapening the Law
They brought the woman. But where was the man?
If their hearts truly were right, they would have been concerned with executing the judgement, rightly. They would have made sure to bring the man; for by the law, both should be stoned.
But they prove themselves to be devilish schemers, for in their pursuit to get one over Jesus, they contradict themselves.
They prove their rebellion to the law and end up cheapening the law.
As it’s something to debate about; something to argue about. Not something to pursue to establish in the heart, but something to argue about, lift oneself up in philosophy and intellect
Cheapening the Heart of the Law
Cheapening the Heart of the Law
Lifting themselves up to be the interpreters and executioners of the law, they show themselves to be extremely inadequate.
She’s proven to just be a tool to them. They don’t actually care about righteousness and her sin.
The law was given to protect the sanctity of marriage, to bring value to a man and a woman in the confines of marriage - to not have women reduce themselves to an object. Yet, they prove she was just an object to them. Not the man, but they just used her to get at Jesus.
In our pursuits to show forth that we know better, we are righteous and our judgement is better than that of God’s, we always contradict ourselves.
