Okay!! So today we are going to review one of the commandments we learned last week. Does everyone remember last week? How many of the commandments can you name?
Excellent! But today we are going back to one of those and this is the one command with a promise.
Anyone have any guesses which one I’m talking about?
Honor your father and mother!! So what does honor mean?
To respect, to be put in a place of importance.
So I asked y’all last week if y’all follow this one. And as kids, that is sometimes hard to do. But what does respect look like? When your mom tells you to wash the dishes do you complain and say no? When your mom tells you to clean your room do you tell her no? Do you call your parent names? And disobey them?
Here is what the Bible says about honoring your parents Ephesians 6:2-3
Ephesians 6:2–3 NLT
“Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
What did that say?! It says you will live a long life!!
Heres the thing though about Fathers day.....this doesnt have to be just about your father. Maybe a father to you is your grandpa or your Uncle or your best friends dad. Do any of yall have someone who is a father like figure to you? Then you honor them too especially today!
You know we have the greatest father ever though. And that is God! Because he loved us so much he sent his only son to die on a tree so we can choose to be with him.
So my challenge for you today is to obey your parents, love your parents, maybe clean the living room out of the goodness of your heart today, and thank the Lord for our parents! Because they have good intentions for us and want to see us grow up to behave and follow Gods promise!
