Never the term FATHER
Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope
Skywalker: He told me you killed my father.
Vadar: No, I am your Father.
If we were to surf on the tops of the waves through 1 Peter, we would see the majority of the Lord’s prayer woven through the letter.
1 Peter 1:3–5 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Father of Jesus Christ
Caused us to be born again to a living hope.
caused us to obtain an inheritance
Protected by God through faith.
The purpose of a father is to Cause our children to be born, Protect and guide them, and leave an inheritance for them.
1 Peter 1:6 NASB95
6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
Various Trials - Peter doesn’t get specific.
Am I suffering because I am following Christ and the World is persecuting me?
Am I suffering because I’m stupid and when you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes?
Am I suffering because God is correcting me?
verse 7 answers the question.
1 Peter 1:7 NASB95
7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
When gold is purified by fire, the Gold doesn’t change. It goes from a solid, to a liquid, and then back to a solid, but it remains God.
What happens, though, is that the impurities in the gold can’t survive the heat and are burned up. So what is left is pure gold.
In our lives:
Philippians 4:13 NASB95
13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
with an immature faith, this verse means that I can take on the world! There is no mountain too high…. With God on my side, I can never fail!
An then life smacks you in the face. You encounter various trials.
Relationships fall apart,
You lose a loved one.
Your kids suffer, and so you suffer.
Your finances fail, your health fails, you become completely overwhelmed……Take your pick…
And the Pollyanna beliefs you have about God get burned up…
God just wants me to be happy.
God won’t let anything bad happen to me.
God loves and accepts me just the way I am.
(He loves you where you are, but sanctification hurts)
If there is no real faith there, it will be revealed.
Jesus about the signs of His return: Nation against nation.
Matthew 24:10–13 NASB95
10 “At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. 12 “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. 13 “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
It is not that the one who endures is stronger, or a better Christian. It is that the faith they have is a genuine faith which is revealed by the trials.
Those that perish were never saved, because they has faith in a god of their own making.
You ask a seasoned Christian, one with physical and emotional scars what
Philippians 4:13 NASB95
13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
means, they will tell you that no matter what evils comes to destroy you, Christ and Christ alone can carry you through it.

About your salvation

1 Peter 1:8–9 NASB95
8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
The outcome of faith in the true Christ. It is not your faith that saves you, but the object of your faith, that is Christ, that causes your salvation.
Interesting conclusion about the OT
1 Peter 1:10–12 NASB95
10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.
Wed night we are diving into the Minor Profits, and that Peter is saying here, is that the OT Profits were given a revelation by the HOLY SPRIT that at least part of the message they were given was for a future people that would know the Messiah, the Christ, Jesus.
This fact is what causes Paul to conclude in 2 Tim 3:16
2 Timothy 3:16 NASB95
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
Things into which angels long to look: Salvation, the redemptive plan of God for people is so deep and rich that Peter’s description carries the idea of angels standing on the edge of the bottomless well of the Father’s love, bending over to see all they can see.

Call to action

If you have been around boats, you know that when you dock you boat, weather for a quick stop for gas, or overnight, you have to attach your boat to the cleats attached to the dock. If you don’t the movement of the water and the wind will cause the boat to drift away.
Peter gives us this great introduction, making much of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He gives us this as a Rock. A foundation that he then calls us to tie ourselves to.
1 Peter 1:13 NASB95
13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Mental preparation for physical action.
In biker language you ride where you look.
What is the physical action?
1 Peter 1:14–16 NASB95
14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
James 3:13 NASB95
13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
Don’t tell me what you believe, show me.
