Questions we might not ask a whole lot...
Welcome to Refresh guys, this summer we have planned a bunch of fun summer activities for you to enjoy before school starts up next fall!
I wanted to each week, share a devotional with you about a topic which I believe God wants us to explore this summer: the family.
When you hear the word family what are other words that come to your mind?
One of the words that come to my mind is food, my mom would make dinner quite often.
Family, means something different to each of us. Some of us might think of happy memories when hearing the word family, spending time together having fun, others might think of fighting, pain, neglect, or even try to avoid thinking about family altogether.
It might be easy to simply not care at all about family. Every single one of us here has been hurt in some way by family. Guaranteed.
So every one has or has had at some point a family. But why? Why do we have families? Why would God create families? Is there even a purpose?
If there is a purpose, how do we fit into it?
Another question is this: is it possible to have a family with people you are not related to?
You might even have questions about family on your mind too.
These are the questions we are looking at this summer.
Whenever we ask big questions, we need to go to our big God, who has the answers to our questions.
Let’s start at the beginning and see what we can learn:
Genesis 1:27–28 (ESV)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
So we can start with the first part:
God created men and women, boys and girls, in His image. They are both equally in his image. God created humans as either male or female. That’s what the Bible says.
What do you guys think it means when it says, God created them in his image?
We are going to keep thinking about this question.
God says to them, be fruitful and multiply (to have kids), filling the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds.
Does any of this sound strange? What do you think about this?
