Introduction:
Introduction:
Book focuses on 3 men: Samuel, Saul, and David
But it is a woman who becomes the center of our attention in chapter 1
Particularly, her prayers
Polygamy!
It is the elephant in the room
She is the ‘second’ wife of Elkanah
And we do not support Polygamy, yet we find it in the Bible
First, it’s not condemned in this passage, nor supported! … Just stated
Secondly, the wives in chapter 1 are ‘rivals,’ showing polygamy to be a hurtful thing…
Question his love
Question his inheritance
Yet, this isn’t why Christians are against it
Genesis 2:24 “24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
Not singular, its plural
We may see OT figures with multiple wives, yet God has made it clear from the beginning… ONE man, ONE woman
Hannah!
Turns to the Lord in a time of trouble
“Take it to the Lord in prayer”
