Servant of Christ Thank the VBS workers, mention things happened how many are saved, and those details. Lets stand for the reading of God’s words ‌ Psalm 119:17–24 “Deal generously with your servant so that I might live; then I will keep your word. Open my eyes so that I may contemplate wondrous things from your instruction. I am a resident alien on Earth; do not hide your commands from me. I am continually overcome with longing for your judgments. You rebuke the arrogant, the ones under a curse, who wander from your commands. Take insult and contempt away from me, for I have kept your decrees. Though princes sit together speaking against me, your servant will think about your statutes; your decrees are my delight and my counselors.” ‌ Pray, sit As Christians we are to be a Servants of Christ Servant, this word is all over the New Testament and in the Epistles of Paul. Paul calls himself a bondservant or slave to Christ a lot. 1 Corinthians 4:1 A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God. 2 Corinthians 4:5 Then also for we are not proclaiming ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’s sake. ‌ What is a servant? A servant is one that performs duties for a person or home of a master or personal employer As Paul said in Corinthians, we as Christians are servants to Christ! ‌So how does a servant know what the master wants? He walks with him, talks to him, and spends time with them. ‌ As Christians we are to walk talk and spend time with Christ just as we would do with anyone here on earth, and if not more so. Because our bodies are not our own. They are a gift from God that we will use to further His kingdom. How do we learn what our master wants?
‌ By constantly staying in God's word and walking with Him. ‌ Look back at verse 18 we see that the author is begging God to open his eyes so that he can Contemplate or to look thoughtfully at for a long time of the wondrous thing for God’s instructions. We need to not just look at the Bible as I have read that before and for us to have the been there done that mentality.
We need to be carefully digging in and see what God has to show us. Even though we have read a story over and over God can show us new things we haven't seen. Like I said last week we need to let our minds be open to hear from Christ as we are reading. ‌ There are more than just surface-level things in the Bible. ‌ Looking at the text, what is the Law they had in those days? Did they have all 66 books like we have, broken up into Old Testament and New? Did they just have the 39 books of the Old Testament broken out into the different categories Major and minor Prophets, Wisdom (by the way if you did not know this Psalms is part of the Wisdoms section in the Old Testament)? ‌ in those days the books of law they had are the Tora, which is the first 5 books of the Old Testament. How much more privilege are we to have all of God’s words at our finger tips every day! ‌ So just like the Text is saying we need to be praying for God to open our eyes to what He has intended for the text to tell us. When we do this then we will be better prepared to see the text in the way that God has meant for the Text we are reading. ‌ We are to come to God’s word with a new blank slate every time, and not try to put our own words into it. ‌ The Bible like I stated earlier shows us how to live our lives out Psalm 119:105 says Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path God’s word shows us how He wants us to live and is the master plan. It leads us and guides us to the path that we should be on. When we get of that path it shows us how to get back. ‌‌ Moving on with the text we see in Verse 19 the author is telling us that this Earth this place here is not our home as Christians. ‌ As I told some of my Bible students this past year. As Christians, we are waiting and longing for the day that we can see Christ and hear Him say WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT. And then we get to enjoy the new heaven and earth that is to come!
‌ We are to be different than the world. ‌ We can see this throughout the New Testament We see in Hebrews 11:13 for example “These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.” ‌‌ 1 Chronicles 29:15. For we are aliens and temporary residents in your presence as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope Same for this but as David writes‌ ‌ Then this flows into 20 how he is longing ( empises this) for God's laws. ‌ We as Christians are too long for God’s words. Without them, we would live in a desert dry and empty with nothing to give out but rough sandy wind and heat. How many of you have been working outside and got hot and thirsty? I know I have got dehydrated multiple times in my life, and that is not fun! Well, when you are not spending time with God this is what is happening to your spiritual life. 📷
‌ We are to never stop wanting to hear from God ‌ The author says he is thinking about it day and night. We are always to have God’s words and think on the day and night, hide your word in my heart that I may not sin against you. If you were here last week, you heard me, say psalms 119:11 that I will hide your words in my heart that I might not sin against you. Your word" - the best possession, "I have hidden in my heart" - the best place "That I might not sin against You" - the best purpose. Also, that we are to fill ourselves with God’s word by meditating on it and always thinking about it. So, in this part, we see that the author is between begging God for mercy then pleading with God for Him to show the laws and words to live by. And that the Author is ALWAYS thinking about them. ‌ Next section we see that people are all around messing with him. When we are following Christ then we will be messed with. Satan doesn't like God and he doesn't like us following God. Let's talk about the VBS Daily truths and main verse for the week for a minuet Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” Monday’s daily truth was some people say Truth can be different for different people. But God says Truth comes from Me. Tuesday was some people say do what makes you happy, but God says My plan for you is even better Wednesday was some people say being a good person gets you into heaven, but God says Everyone needs a savior Thursday some people say there are many ways to get into heaven, but God says Jesus is the only way to heaven Friday was some people say if you don’t agree with me, you don’t love me, but God says speak truth in love This world is going to tell you things that go against the Scriptures, but if you are spending time with Christ and serving Him you will know the difference.
What are you serving that is keeping you from being God’s servant 100%? To be a servant to Christ is to die to yourself daily, meaning the things that you want to do you don’t do to do what Christ wants. ‌ Circle back to the Gospel at the end. ‌ ‌ Narrow it down ‌ ‌ Dont be choppy ‌ ‌ ‌
