King James Version (Job 13:15-16)
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him:
But I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16  He also shall be my salvation:

1. One thing that has been proven throughout time is that people confuse who God is and how He acts.

There are so many views of God.
One of the topics that is viewed and applied in many different ways is the sovereingty of God.
Having the highest power or being completely independent. - Cambridge dictionary. Supreme ruler.
To confuse the sovereignty of God brings about all kinds of problems.

2. This causes all kinds of problems including the developing of false doctrine.

To think He doesnt have power and is not in control is one extreme and shorthands who He truly is and how much He is in control.
King James Version (Psalm 24:1-2)
1  aThe earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof;
The world, and they that dwell therein.
2  For he hath founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the floods.
Calvinism
Sovereignty misapplied.
The will of man.
This is all very important because both bad and good things happen in our world and even in our very own lives.

3. While bad things happen and good things happen, we have to be careful we don’t act out to be so wise.

Some people got it all figured out.
Something happens here… its the devil....something happens there its God.
Job’s friends.
King James Version (Job 4:7-8)
7  Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent?
Or where were the righteous cut off?
8  Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity,
And sow wickedness, reap the same.
King James Version (Job 8:3-6)
3  Doth God pervert judgment?
Or doth the Almighty pervert justice?
4  If thy children have sinned against him,
And he have cast them away for their transgression;
5  If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes,
And make thy supplication to the Almighty;
6  If thou wert pure and upright;
Surely now he would awake for thee,
And make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
King James Version (Job 1:1-3)
1 THERE was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. 2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. 3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
Job’s wife.
King James Version (Job 2:9)
9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
Even Job at times.
King James Version (Job 3:3-5)
3  Let the day perish wherein I was born,
And the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
4  Let that day be darkness;
Let not God regard it from above,
Neither let the light shine upon it.
5  Let darkness and the shadow of death ||stain it;
Let a cloud dwell upon it;
Let the blackness of the day terrify it.

4. We need to remember that even though God is sovereign there are numberous possibilities for things that come our way.

God is in control. He either allows or He does. In that we need to understand that
i. There is a real devil and demonic powers.
ii. We live in a fallen world.
iii. We have our own choices which bring forth consequences.
iv. In the wisdom of God some things happen that we do not understand.
King James Version (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in znecessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
What about chastisement?
King James Version (Hebrews 12:5-7)
My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

5. In the end we would do well to learn the lesson that Job learned and respond like Job responded!

God is sovereign but we dont understand it all!
King James Version (Job 13:15-16)
15  Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him:
But I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16  He also shall be my salvation:
King James Version (Job 1:20-22)
20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21 And said,
Naked came I out of my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return thither:
The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away;
Blessed be the name of the LORD.
22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
In conclusion remember God’s answer to Job.

38 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

2  Who is this that darkeneth counsel

By words without knowledge?

3  Gird up now thy loins like a man;

For I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

4  Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?

Declare, if thou hast understanding.

5  Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest?

Or who hath stretched the line upon it?

6  Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened?

Or who laid the corner stone thereof;

7  When the morning stars sang together,

And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8  Or who shut up the sea with doors,

When it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

9  When I made the cloud the garment thereof,

And thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

40 Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

2  Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him?

He that reproveth God, let him answer it.
