Proverbs 18:1-3
Introduction: We all have things that we desire. We all have hobbies, things you like to do, you follow sports teams, you read books, you watch movies, you play with legos, you play video games. We all have things that we desire and that we pursue.
For example, I am in a competition with Steven and Andrew to see who can lose weight
Let the opinion of the one who matters the most determine what you pursue the most.
Make sure your number one desire is the Lord.
If your pursuit is God, there will be people, thoughts, habits, and pursuits that you will have to separate from.
What good things may be keeping you from the best things? You may have to separate yourself for a time from something that isn’t even harmful so that you can pursue the number one thing in your life.
When do you meet with God? What is your time and place?
The only good way to get the desires of your heart is if they are centered on the Lord. He promises to bless you if He is first but if you pursue your own desires, regret will soon follow.
If you get what you want most, will it lead to honor or dishonor? Will it lead to blessing from the Lord or consequences and regret?
I am not talking about your professed pursuit, I am talking about what actually takes your time and your desires. If your life keeps going where it is at, where is it going to end?
When sin enters, shame will soon follow.
When you pursue your own desires, the only thing that will follow is sin and after sin is shame.
