MPS: We must seek refuge under the wing of the Lord, who redeems his people
I. Ruth continues to respond to her circumstances with faith.
I. Ruth continues to respond to her circumstances with faith.
Ruth is still honoring her mother in law by asking to go and do what is necessary
Again, Ruth is someone who is to be commended
She goes out and works hard
story about the outhouse
lit. “and until now, this her sitting the house has been few”
Ruth is relying on provision made by the Lord in the Law
Leviticus 19:9–10 “9 “When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. 10 And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.”
Notice what follows: Leviticus 19:11 “11 “You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another.”
[TRN]- Seeing the law played out in the lives of Ruth and Boaz reminds us that…
II. Boaz lives up to his reputation
II. Boaz lives up to his reputation
Boaz is introduced as a worthy man
He greets his workers
he knows his workers
this is how he knows Ruth isn’t one of them
He goes far and above what he is required
first, he does what is required
then he protects her from his workers
he makes her a guest at his table
he has his workers help her
III. The Lord Provides
III. The Lord Provides
First, through the Law
Second, by orchestrating the “so happened” with Boaz
Narrator sets up with v.1
a worthy man
“It just so happened”
The fact that Boaz is the relative
he follows the law by leaving grain
he is the kind of guy who goes over and beyond
Ruth must be his type: “who is that?”
Conclusion
Conclusion
Corporate: Under the Old Covenant, the LORD legislated charity through agriculture. Under the New Covenant, he has placed his bride in reach of the needy, and commanded her to care.
Individual: Ruth looks for refuge in the Lord simply by living obediently
We must seek refuge under the arm of the Lord
seeking to obedient no matter the curcumstances
trusting that the Lord will do as he has said he has done
