recap of Day 1
Do you remember what yesterday was? IT starts with C? CREATION!
Do you remember what the title was? it starts with an A? ALL is Good!
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Do you remember your memory verse? Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Day 2: Corruption & Catastrophe
Day 2: Corruption & Catastrophe
today our title is: ALL sin. our passages today will come from Genesis 3 & Genesis 6-9.
Corruption: to understand the magnitude of the corruption we need to understand what happened from all is good to all sin. what happened?
turn with me to Genesis 3:1-5
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
I want to look at 3 points from this passage:
Satan will always get you to doubt God’s word. (vs.1) did God say you shall not eat of ANY tree of the garden. Satan and others will misquote and misuse the bible.
in genesis 2:16-17 the Lord gave them specific instructions:
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Satan will get you to doubt God’s goodness and plan. (vs.4-5)
God’s instructions, his goodness was to protect them and guard them. Satan Got them to believe God was holding something good back from them.
vs. 5- it says there eyes will be opened. you will be like God knowing good and evil. Do you doubt God’s plan for your life? God was a loving father protecting and caring for them. Satan said, you can be like him.
vs.4- Satan said, you surely will not die! Satan will get you to doubt God’s authority. Gods word is a Lamp unto our feet, will make our paths straight. Paul tells Timothy in 2 Tim. 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
In (vs. 8-13) of chapter 3 we see guilt, shame and excuses.
The Lord came in the cool of the day to be with them.
they hid themselves. (vs.8)
they were ashamed because they were naked. (vs10)
in( verses 12-13) we see excuses and blame. Adam blamed the women you gave to me. the women then blamed the serpent.
have you ever blamed anyone for your sins, mistakes, wrongs?
in (vs. 14-19) we see the earthly consequences of sin.
the serpent. (vs. 14-15)
the women ( vs. 16)
the man. (vs. 17-19)
and finally we see in (vs. 22-24) eternal separation from God. (22-24)
all sin has entered through Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God and his word. Everything we see now is a result of this decision. death, sickness, pain, and yes even weeds.
Catastrophe and corruption (Gen. 6-9)
fast forward to Genesis 6:5-11
Genesis 6:5–11 (ESV)
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.
corruption has filled the earth because of sin!
catastrophe has come! (vs.13)
And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
a global flood.
Genesis 7:17–21(ESV)
17 The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. 18 The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. 20 The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. 21 And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind.
this was a global flood, all of the earth was covered with water. (see slides)
only the family of Noah and the land animals on the ark survived.
how big was the ark? (see slide)
it was the width of 2 school buses, height of 3 giraffes, and the length of 1-1/2 football fields!
God directed 2 of every kind of animal on the ark. (see slide)
Genesis 6:19–20 (ESV)
19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds
Covenant: (see slide)
before flood God promised in 6:18:
But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
after the flood God reminded them and the sign it would be:
Genesis 9:8–16 (ESV)
8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, 9 “Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
God makes a promise/covenant that he will never destroy the earth again with a global flood. every time we see a beautiful rainbow in the sky, it is a reminder of that promise made by God.
Day 2 Verse: (see slide)
They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
Applications For Today:
Applications For Today:
Do you trust God’s word today? or are you going to doubt it like Adam and Eve?
Remember that SIN has consequences. eternal for those that do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as there Lord and Savior but earthly consequences as well. Do you have a personally relationship with Jesus as your savior?
When you see a rainbow again what will it remind you of?
